Since its inception, Frank + Oak has offered “premium, on-trend styles” for every occasion or situation a man might find himself. Now, the fashion and lifestyle brand is crafting cozy cotton dresses, handsome outerwear, and layering garments for women.

The inaugural Frank + Oak women’s collection was inspired by the “passionate mindset and laissez-faire style of today’s entrepreneurs,” according to press materials.

I previewed the much-anticipated collection last week during an intimate event at Ludlow Studios, on New York’s Lower East Side. While delicious food and cocktails were on hand, the Frank + Oak women’s collection was the obvious star of the evening.

I was instantly smitten with a cream shaker-knit sweater. Not only would it be cozy when the autumn chill hits, but it also offers so many styling possibilities, as is the goal of Frank + Oak. I busted into a little dance to show my excitement for the knit that can be styled casually or formally.

    Instagram Photo

Second and third on my Frank + Oak shopping list are the Long Wool-Blend Overcoat in Camel and the Brushed-Knit Wool-Blend Cocoon Coat in Grey. Both are easily wearable toppers that will carry a style geek through the winter.

The rest of the Frank + Oak women’s collection features merino-blend sweaters and turtlenecks, elevated joggers, high-waist mom jeans, T-shirt and shirt dresses, sweater dresses, and bomber jackets. There’s even a streamlined biker jacket that will remain a classic season after season. Accessories, including a backpack and the Leather Crossbody Bag, as well as Lurex Socks in a myriad of colors round out the collection.

I’m sure there will be at least one Frank + Oak women’s collection garment that you will fall in love with, so be sure to sign up here for exclusive updates and access to a pre-sale event before the fall launch.

Models booked for Kanye West‘s Yeezy Season 4 fashion show, which was presented by Adidas yesterday, had to suffer for “fashion.” Here’s what happened …

West debuted the collection on Roosevelt Island in New York, and Tidal live-streamed the show. The show began an hour late and was held outdoors in the hot sun.

The seemingly “multiracial” models, as was West’s preference, wore nude bodysuits, army jackets, and white hoodies. Some stood at attention in the grass, while others walked the runway. Temperatures reached 85 degrees in the city yesterday. The heat proved too much for at least one model who fainted. A spectator who wasn’t affiliated with the production reportedly came to her aid.

The models looked miserable during the show. Amina Blue struggled to walk in her high heels and eventually removed them. Other visibly exhausted models chose to sit in the grass. Teyana Taylor, who also appeared in West’s “Fade” music video, managed to keep it together on the catwalk.

Even though a lot happened at the show, the Washington Post‘s Robin Givhan wasn’t thrilled.

The Cut Editorial Director Stella Bugbee‘s tweets chronicled the mood of the Yeezy Season 4 show. The tweets are definitely worth a read on the next page.

We have to add Tyson Beckford to the list of celebrities who don’t age. He’s quite arguably the most famous male supermodel of my generation. Yet 19 years after Beckford’s Ralph Lauren ad campaign photos wallpapered my bedroom, the 45 year old is still stunning fans on the runways. Backstage at the Michael Costello fashion show yesterday afternoon, Beckford showed off his chiseled chest while being interviewed, and we have to thank the gods.

    Instagram Photo

He also looked quite handsome in a fuchsia floral suit by the designer.

But judging from the below photo, Beckford could use some Scotch Porter for his beard.

A road rage incident last night in New York City led to the NYPD arresting rapper Desiigner and his entourage for felony drug and weapon charges.

According to sources speaking with TMZ, Desiigner and his crew were riding in an SUV when they got into a screaming match with people in a car. The driver of the car called 911 and said Desiigner pointed a gun at him. The rapper and his friends drove off in the SUV, but not before the other driver copied their license plate number.

A short time later, the police found the SUV and searched it. They discovered a large quantity of Oxycontin and other pills in the center console.

The police arrested Desiigner and four others, and charged them with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance and felony criminal possession of drugs with intent to sell.

Although it’s unclear whether the NYPD found a gun on him, the cops also charged Desiigner with felony criminal possession of a loaded weapon and menacing for allegedly aiming a gun at the other driver.

Lady Chablis, who is most famous for her role in John Berendt‘s 1994 bestseller Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and the 1997 film adaptation, passed away the morning of Sept. 8th.

Chablis was also a fixture in the gay clubs of Georgia and South Carolina. She performed her cabaret show at nightclubs in Savannah and Columbia. In 1988, she opened Club One in Savannah, helping to define it as a sexy and modern Southern city, according to The Advocate.

Club One released the news of Lady Chablis’s passing via its Facebook page. “The Lady chablis, who stole hearts – and the spotlight – in Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil, passed this morning surrounded by friends and family,” the post reads. “She was Club One’s very first entertainer, officiating our grand opening in 1988, and paving the way for female impersonation in Savannah. No one, however, could outshine the Grand Empress herself.”

The Associated Press confirmed that Chablis passed away from pneumonia.

Hood by Air had to know what it was doing when deciding to put the models for its spring 2017 fashion show in hair, makeup, and nails that resembled a particular bodily fluid. The fashion brand is not only making headlines for partnering with PornHub, it’s also gaining publicity for the unusual look of its models.

The models’ hair, foreheads, cheeks, and nails were covered in globs of a gooey substance. A dirty mind isn’t even necessary to figure out what everyone is saying the substance resembles.

uptown_hood_by_air2However, the team of artists behind Hood by Air described the hair and beauty inspiration as “mischievous children who got into household accidents, like getting into Vaseline,” reports

It didn’t help that Hood by Air collaborated with PornHub, some of the garments bore the word “wench,” and The Cut described the soundtrack as “gurgling, gagging, and spitting noises.”

The makeup look was created by MAC makeup artist Inge Grognard using MAC Cosmetics Mixing Medium Shine, Egyptian Magic, and theater makeup. Amy Farid gave the hair look a slick, goopy look with Bumble and bumble Curl Anti-Humidity Gel-Oil. For the nails, manicurist Mar y Soul painted a French manicure, chipped it, and topped the nails off with a tiny glob of Vaseline, according to

Fortunately, the Hood by Air makeup and hair look won’t be next season’s new trend.

The Tracy Reese Spring 2017 collection will launch inclusive sizing, for the first time in the fashion brand’s history. Finally, designer Tracy Reese‘s dream of expanding from traditional contemporary sizing has come to fruition.

The announcement of inclusive sizing came yesterday, Sept. 11th, during the Tracy Reese Spring ’17 presentation at the New York City Marble Cemetery.

Reese was inspired by talented women of all sizes, shapes, colors, and ages — dancers, musicians, artists, activists, philanthropists, mothers, and even actress and comedian Sasheer Zamata. The presentation even featured “real women” along with models.

    Instagram Photo

“It’s always been my mission to make every woman feel beautiful,” said Reese of the collection, in a press release. “Nothing makes me happier than seeing amazing women in our clothes and knowing that we can be a part of their daily lives.”

    Instagram Photo

The collection, like the “multi-faceted” woman, features garments that can be worn year-round, but with a focus on the hope, optimism, and rebirth spring brings. The clothes are designed to move and be multi-functional for the woman who leads a fast-paced life. The dresses can go from day to night. Soft silks, satin, knits, twill, and lace caress and highlight the body without constricting it. Utilitarian jackets, trousers, and even dresses work for an active lifestyle.

    Instagram Photo

But Reese also paid attention to the sexiness of a woman, offering the shoulders as the main erogenous zone. There are cold-shoulder ruffles, button-off sleeves, and strapless dresses. Cut-outs, lace, and sheer embroidery also give glimpses of legs and lower backs.

    Instagram Photo

The color palette is cherry red, black, begonia, and lavender featured in solids and watercolor florals.

The fashion presentation was attended by Whoopi Goldberg and Karreuche Tran.

    Instagram Photo

It’s refreshing to see a renown fashion designer like Tracy Reese offering sultriness and confidence to an expanded range of women.

It’s been 15 years since Bell Biv DeVoe released a new joint. That changed today with the group’s release of new song “Run” and the corresponding video.

The visual follows Ricky, Mike, and Ronnie owning their legacy as rap-singing pioneers.

The video features hip-hop highlights from the 1990s — a Run D.M.C.-style logo, ’90s fashions, and a tricked out Jeep Wrangler.

Lionel C. Martin directed the “Run” video. He previously directed BVD’s “Poison” and “Something in Your Eyes” music videos.

The song repackages Herb Alpert‘s “knock” from The Notorious B.I.G.‘s “Hypnotize.”

What do you think of Bell Biv DeVoe’s first song since releasing 2001’s BBD?

“I was watching an interview and I loved what one of the girls said — they don’t think it’s outdated, because it shows their hard work. It shows, ‘You know what, I’m confident in my skin.’ And I really loved that answer.”

    — Gabby Douglas makes a case for the Miss America pageant swimsuit competition, while walking the red carpet at the event Sunday night. She served as celebrity judge for the pageant and her opinion on the bikinis was shaped by hearing a contestant’s pride in wearing swimwear. Although the Miss Teen USA pageant has eliminated the swimwear portion, opting for contestants to wear activewear instead, Douglas believes the swimsuit competition is a positive aspect of the competition. She should know since she has won Olympic medals in leoatards that also show the hard work she’s put into her physique and building strength.

If inanimate objects were given Emmy Awards, we’d nominate the EXIMO Old Fashioned. Instead, we’ll sip on this House of Cards-inspired cocktail while watching the 68th Emmy Awards Sunday, Sept. 18th.

To celebrate the Netflix series’s 13 Emmy nominations, FACUNDO EXIMO Rum put a twist on the classic Old Fashioned cocktail, which usually has a bourbon base. Like Francis Underwood, the hot-headed, masculine character actor Kevin Spacey made famous, the Old Fashioned is tied to South Carolina. While the EXIMO version takes cues from the classic Southern cocktail, it also puts a refreshing spin on the original with an aroma of toffee, honey, and bittersweet chocolate and a palate of walnut and vanilla. This sophisticated cocktail is easy to make at home with honey syrup and Burlesque Bitters.

Whether you’re hosting an Emmy viewing party or tuning in on your own, the EXIMO Old Fashioned will surely make the night award-winning.

    EXIMO Old Fashioned

    • 2 parts FACUNDO EXIMO
    • .25 part honey syrup
    • 4 drops of Burlesque Bitters
    • Orange peel garnish
    • Ice sphere

    Method: Stirred.

“Our children need to know that technology is their friend, and not something that is out of their reach or intimidating.” Munson Steed, the founder of Rolling Out Urbanstyle weekly and CEO of Steed Media Group, brings his philosophy to life in his new children’s book, Little Professor Skye – Favorite Things. The concept of technology is embodied in the form of the robot, Cutie Pie, who befriends the book’s title character, Skye, a multi-faceted and prodigious African-American 10 year old. Her father, a scientist, is attentive and encouraging. His focus on her is—thankfully—non-sentimental. Instead, it’s pure and firm insistence on midwifing his daughter’s success.

When Skye slips out of bed and into her father’s lab, her father seizes a teaching opportunity. “My project is for intelligent, curious, little girls like you,” he says before introducing Skye to the pink and affable Cutie Pie and tasking her with showing the machine all of her favorite things. Skye takes on the challenge without hesitation and the journey begins.

Easily digestible and bursting with inspiration, Steed’s first foray into the children’s book genre is an enjoyable one. He based the heroine on his real-life god-daughter, Skye. In his quest to constantly encourage her, he decided to create a series of books in which the character will learn, grow, and evolve while embracing the tools needed to insure success.

A recent study showed that at 7 years old, the average black girl’s interest in STEM (Science, Technology and Math) is at 70 percent. However, by the time that girl reaches seventh grade, her interest level falls to a paltry 7 percent. Skye is not only comfortable with technology and loves science and math, she also is an avid reader, budding pianist, and a painter. She is learning the importance of balancing the sciences with the arts. She speaks of writing a letter to The White House and then we see the President and First Lady speak to her class. Skye’s potential is fueled by her belief in possibility. “I can go anywhere I dream, be anything I choose,” she says. Yes. All of our children need to believe the same.

The gazebo where 12-year-old Tamir Rice took his last breath has gone from a “symbol of pain” to a makeshift memorial to a museum exhibit.

The Cleveland park gazebo was dismantled today in order to move it to the Stony Brooks Art Center in Chicago. Local officials helped to arrange the removal of the structure and the loan to the museum.

Tamir’s mom, Samir Rice, initially wanted the gazebo demolished, but family attorney Subodh Chandra said she changed her mind when it became a memorial to Tamir. She recognizes the significance the gazebo holds for the community.

Tamir was holding a pellet gun when a police officer, responding to a report of a man with a gun, shot and killed him within two seconds of arriving at the location. The shooting ignited protests of police misconduct, brutality, and excessive force nationwide. A grand jury failed to indict the two officers involved last December. In April, Cleveland settled a wrongful death lawsuit with the Rice family for $6 million.

Faith Evans and Stevie J have been getting affectionate on Instagram, sparking rumors they’re a new couple.

A day ago, the First Lady of Bad Boy posted a photo collage of her and the former hit-maker getting really close. They both wrapped an arm around the other, but in the second photo, Stevie J appears to be having some naughty thoughts about Evans.

    Instagram Photo

Evans’s caption even seems to suggest that their relationship is out in the public.

The former hit-maker appears to be following Evans along on the Bad Boy Reunion tour.

    Instagram Photo

Although neither has confirmed or denied a romantic relationship, Stevie J also isn’t keeping their friendship a secret.

    Instagram Photo

As far back as a month ago, Stevie J and Evans appeared to be more than friends.

With all of his antics on Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta with former fiancée Joseline Hernandez, one would wonder how Evans could get caught up with such an obvious attention whore. In the article “Stevie J: Pipe and The Game,” one writer opines on how Stevie J keeps getting play.

Celebrity makeup artist AJ Crimson, who counts Brandy; Cassie; Serayah; and Lauren London as clients, shared his beauty tricks and tips during a Colgate Optic White and Family Dollar Fabulous event on Sept. 10th. Crimson was joined by celebrity stylist Anastasia Walker and Colgate ambassador and Fashion Bomb Daily founder Claire Sulmers for the New York Fashion Week event.

Celebrity stylist Anastasia Walker, celebrity makeup artist AJ Crimson & fashion blogger Claire Sulmers

The Family Dollar Fabulous program aims to celebrate and honor Black women and other women of color “by highlighting how inner beauty, when combined with fashion, unique features, skin tones, and hairstyles, makes us all fabulous, fantastic, and fashionable,” according to a press release.

The morning kicked-off at a Bronx, NY Family Dollar (415 Soundview Ave.). Crimson highlighted specific beauty products on sale at the store, like L.A. Colors’ eyebrow kit, while we learned about the other brands available at Family Dollar. (Did you know the Family Dollar sells quality Pro Player fitness pants for $10?!) A highlight of the tour was the dental care aisle, where we learned that Colgate Optic White Express White Toothpaste is Colgate’s fastest whitening toothpaste. In just three days, the user can achieve a bright white smile.

    Instagram Photo

Later, we moved to the beauty bar at Harlem Skin & Laser Clinic (2119 Frederick Douglass Blvd.). This is where Crimson divulged his best makeup tips and tricks (following page), and I was able to pick his brain about transitioning summer makeup to fall, beauty trends, and the products women with oily skin and dry skin should use.

Annika Harris: What are the best ways to transition summer makeup to fall without completely overhauling everything?
AJ Crimson: Take an inventory of what you have really. In my class, Beauty Basics 101, it’s one-on-one. I have you just bring in like a shoe box of all your makeup, and we take an inventory. You have to think, we’re in New York right now and it’s 90 degrees in September, so the seasons for us don’t necessarily matter so much anymore. You can kind of wear a berry lip that you would normally reserve for fall in the summer. It’s all about your own fashion sensibilities, and how you want to play with your makeup wardrobe. The fresh face is always in style or a less is more kind of a thing. Always playing up the eyes. I think the transition from one season to the next can actually be quite seamless. It’s about you adopting that there are no rules in makeup, like there is in fashion.

AH: Are there any fall beauty trends or tried and true techniques that you will employ this season?
Crimson: One thing that I’ve been doing or working on is a new way to do eyeshadow. I love that girls are embracing color and wanting to see tons of color on the eye. But how do we do it in a simple and easy way, where you don’t feel overwhelmed by it? With my clients, we’re experimenting with sheer washes of color on the eye that are vibrant, that kind of give a hint of allure. And then whether it’s rich purples or greens, making the eyeshadow glossy is really great for fall, and leaving the rest of the skin matte. You know matte lips are all the rage right now. If you’re going to do a matte lip, then do something with a little more texture or sheen on the eye. If you’re going to do something that is less about the eye in terms of color pay-off, then maybe you do some beautiful lashes and then go bold on the lip. Also, re-purposing things. I love matching the lipstick I am using on a girl and also use it as the blusher she’s wearing to create this really beautiful color palette.

AH: What are five products a women with oily skin should take with her on-the-go and one with dry skin?
Crimson: A woman with dry skin should have AJ Crimson Dual Skin cream foundation. If she has oily skin, she should actually have AJ Crimson Neutral Matte loose powder because it absorbs the oil without disrupting the foundation, changing the color of the foundation, or making the skin look too heavy. I would do a hard set of powder in the morning, just in those areas where you’re oiliest, and then you can touch up with a brush throughout the day as needed. It really depends on the level of sheen you like to see in your complexion, but you always want to do it lightly. Start off lightly and then build up, that way you don’t overwhelm the skin, overwhelm the face with something too heavy. Three more products that a girl would need. I would say great skincare, to be honest. Start out with really beautiful, really great skincare. I like things that are really going to hydrate my skin. Whether you’re oily or dry, it’s all about a good hydration right now. SK-II makes some now that are really great. Try Urban Rx which is a skincare line that’s developed for women of color which is really amazing. Cream blush is so underrated. I think it’s so natural and it’s so easy to use, and you can use your fingers with applying it. Just take a little and add it slowly is what my recommendation is. Or even if you make a mistake, you can always buff it and blend it out. Or you can take that and put it under your foundation and it will look like the blush is coming through your skin naturally. And last, mascara. You gotta have some mascara. If you don’t have mascara, then where are you going?!

Keep reading for more makeup suggestions from AJ Crimson …

    AJ Crimson’s Beauty Tips

    • Lashes complete the look: Give eyes an instant wake-up call with L.A. Girl Mascara available at Family Dollar. For an effortless and dramatic eye-popping effect, extend mascara root to tip for luxurious, voluminous lashes. Protect your eyeshadow by using a triangular sponge to hold the eyelid up and catch any mascara as you sweep the wand through your eyelashes.
    • Luscious lashes are always on trend: Sometimes mascara alone isn’t enough for a dramatic eye look, which is why I love great eyelashes. One of my favorite tricks to create more natural luscious lashes is to take a lash strip style you love and cut them into four sections before applying. Doing this will break up the lash and allow them to feel more like your own. You can perfect the lash line by using liquid liner.
    • Complement your look with a designer smile: You need to make sure any look is complemented by a designer smile — Colgate Optic White Express White toothpaste is proven to whiten teeth in just three days, and is Colgate’s fastest teeth whitening toothpaste ever. To help boost teeth whiteness even more, use a blue-based red lipstick to further emphasize white teeth. Make sure you exfoliate your lips prior to applying lipstick, especially if you’re using a matte shade.
    • Transition summer lipstick colors to fall weather: Blue-based deep berry and red matte lips are perfect for the summer-to-fall transition and will stay in style. The newest trend is “lip stain.” It’s a wash of color that stays put. Use an L.A. Girl matte lipstick, available at Family Dollar stores, by swiping directly on the lips and pushing into lips with your finger to create the stain. Blot with tissue and apply another layer with the same technique to get eight-hour wear.
    • Create a new nail polish out of eyeshadow color “fails”: One of my favorite things to customize is nail polish. Using a shade of metallic eyeshadows, scrape a bit of shadow on a mixing tray, and pour clear nail polish onto the eyeshadow. Just mix and apply! You now have a way to try something new or re-purpose old eye shadow that didn’t quite work on you.

Sandra Bland‘s family has settled with the Waller County Jail and the Texas Department of Public Safety for $1.9 million in a wrongful death lawsuit.

The settlement was capped by state statutes. The Waller County Jail will pay the bulk of the settlement, $1.8 million, while the Texas Department of Public Safety will pay $100,000, according to Houston news outlet ABC13

Part of the settlement includes changes to jail procedures in Waller County, reports CNN.

Bland was found hanging in her jail cell three days after Texas State Trooper Brian Encinia arrested her for failing to use her turn signal in July 2015. However, the arrest remains controversial.

Details of the settlement were finalized Wednesday night. The jail procedural changes include, according to CNN’s report:

    • “Using automated electronic sensors to ensure timely cell checks”: After a preliminary autopsy ruled Bland committed suicide, a two-page “special inspection report” from the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, obtained by CNN, showed that guards didn’t check on the inmates in a timely fashion.
    • “Providing an on-duty staff nurse or emergency medical technician for all shifts”
    • “Providing continuing education for jailer screening”: According to a timeline from the Waller County Sheriff’s Office, a guard didn’t check on Bland from 7 a.m. until 8:55 a.m. The state report said there should be “visual, face-to-face observation of all inmates by jailers no less than once every 60 minutes.”

Family attorney Cannon Lambert said, “The Waller County judge will be seeking passage of state legislation for more funding for local jails regarding intake and booking, screening and other jail support,” now that a settlement has been reached.

It’s almost Friday, fortunately. If this week has you wanting to strangle your boss or your coworkers, then take a page from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and the Jumanji cast and crew, who decided to begin production of the sequel with positive vibes.

The Rock shared a video yesterday of a Hawaiian Kahu or priest blessing the cast/crew and production while on set.

“Before we embark our #JUMANJI journey here in Hawaii, we gathered our entire cast (here with me are Jack Black, Kevin Hart, our director Jake Kasdan and Karen Gillian) and crew together as our Hawaiian Kahu (priest) Cordell Keka blesses our film with powerful aloha spirit of laughter, enjoyment and love,” explains The Rock in the caption.

The video doesn’t show the entire ceremony, but it’s obvious the participants are taking the blessing seriously. They probably don’t want the discord that occurred between the former wrestler and Vin Diesel on the set of Fast 8.

The Rock continued sharing his Samoan culture with the world when he appeared this morning on Good Morning America. He stayed awake all night in order to debut the new trailer for Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Moana on live TV.

    Check it out below …

The film, starring Auli‘i Cravalho (voice of Moana) and The Rock (voice of Maui), opens in theaters in 3D this Thanksgiving.
