Denzel Washington reportedly out of detox program.

Overdoing it and indulging can come with a price around the waist for many, but if you have millions of dollars and time to spare, then you can get help kicking the toxins out of your system. TMZ reports that heartthrob actor Denzel Washington spent two weeks at an Orange County, California residence to detox after a month long vacation. Washington and his wife Pauletta Washington were on a yacht the month of July and did a lot of drinking and eating.

When asked about the detox by TMZ photographers, Denzel flashed that to die for smile and asked “What are you talking about?” Guess he uses those acting skills even off the screen.

Washington’s publicist spoke with Entertainment Tonight Sunday, sharing that the 59 year old does a health cleanse every time he is about to go back to work, along with his conditioning and nutritional program. Sounds like there’s nothing to worry about here folks. Besides, Denzel has a new film to promote, so he’s got to look good right? He will be promoting the new film, The Equalizer. In the film, Denzel plays a former black ops commando who faked his own death, but comes out of retirement to save a young girl. The film hits theaters September 26.

Kenneth Douglas admits to having sex with up to 100 corpses while working at an Ohio morgue.

One would think the bodies of your loved ones would be safe within the confines of a morgue. A man who worked in a morgue in Ohio admitted to having sex with female corpses while at work. WCPO in Cincinnati reports Kenneth Douglas worked the night shift at the Hamilton County morgue from 1976 to 1992. In a deposition he revealed he had sex with up to 100 dead bodies, while drunk or high. “I would just get on top of them and pull my pants down, ” confessed Douglas.

In 2012, Douglas was charged and convicted in three cases of abusing a corpse. Families of the victims sued the county. Douglas’ DNA was discovered in 2008 on the body of a 19 year old woman that died in 1992. Douglas said he had sex with that woman, and multiple others while the bodies were awaiting autopsies. Another one of Douglas’ victims includes a 23 year old that he had sex with on the day she died after being strangled while six months pregnant.

WCPO also reports that Douglas’ wife testified in a court that she called to report that her husband was coming home smelling like “sex and alcohol” but was told whatever happens on county property is county business.

Hamilton County officials say they can’t be held accountable for the actions of their employees, but WCPO reports, on Friday, a judge ruled that a jury could find the county’s former coroner and morgue reckless for neglecting to supervise Douglas. The is the fourth lawsuit the county has faced for improperly handling corpses.

Bet you didn’t know K. Michelle and Idris Elba are good friends. In fact, they’re such great pals that Elba took the helm of K. Michelle’s TV musical, Rebellious Soul: The Musical.

The 30-minute special, set to air on VH1 Aug. 19, is an accompaniment to Michelle’s debut album Rebellious Soul, which debuted at No. 1 and No. 2 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop albums and Top 200 albums charts, respectively, in 2013.

Even though Elba seems to be a man who takes charge, Michelle said he paid attention to her vision and was easy to work with. “I told him about what I wanted to do, and he held his word,” she said to the AP. “He never did judge me. He’s a very down-to-earth person, so working with him was like working with one of my homeboys.”

Michelle might have gotten her notoriety by engaging in drama and “ratchery” on “Love & Hip Hop,” but expect different behavior going forward. She says she’s matured a lot since watching herself on the hit reality show, and she’s ready to show a side of herself that was absent on LHHNY and “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta” — motherhood. Fans of Michelle will finally see her parenting her son on her reality show “K. Michelle: My Life,” which VH1 will premiere in the fall.

“I keep him very tucked away from TV,” she told the AP of her son, “but this’ll be the world’s first time getting a little piece of my heart, my little one.”

After mistaking her 7-year-old grandson as a burglar at 1 a.m. Tuesday, a Tampa grandmother shot the boy in the upper body. He is listed in critical, but stable condition.

Linda Maddox was babysitting her grandsons, Tyler Maddox and his twin brother, while their father Reginald Maddox went to work. Ms. Maddox told deputies she had placed a chair against the bedroom door handle for extra protection after putting the twins to bed. When she heard the chair sliding against the floor, she assumed it was an intruder. Ms. Maddox grabbed a loaded .22-caliber revolver she keeps by the bed and fired one shot in the dark toward the door, according to Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies. Seconds later, the 63-year-old grandmother heard the cries from her grandson, realizing she shot him.

Tyler was wounded in his upper body and was taken to St. Joseph’s hospital.
Linda Maddox was not arrested and charges haven’t been filed.

Kevin Hart’s proposal to girlfriend Eniko Parrish had impeccable timing yesterday. While the comedian was down on one knee professing his love for his girlfriend of five years, his ex-wife Torrei Hart, and mother of his two children, was making her television debut on VH1′s Atlanta Exes. It also happened to be Parrish’s 30th birthday.

In May, after Torrei told Entertainment Tonight that Parrish caused her and Kevin’s marriage to end, the Think Like a Man comedian took to Twitter to defend his now fiancée.

“My woman has nothing to do with my past marriage problems in any way shape or form,” he wrote. “It’s almost 7yrs total of me not being with my Ex … I guess giving a woman over 20k a month and still being there for her and being a incredible father isn’t enough!”


A lot of Torrei’s storyline on the reality show will center on her problem with Eniko being around her kids and over Kevin allegedly cheating with her well before their marriage ended. The VH1 star’s not going to get too stuck on that, though.

“This show is more so about us moving forward,” said Torrei.  “I’m onto bigger and better things and just living my life post-divorce.”

This morning on the “The Ryan Cameron Morning Show,” Torrei commented on the engagement, “I think it’s beautiful. Love is beautiful.” Torrei is in a relationship of her own since the show was filming and is basking in the glow of her newfound love.  However, when asked whether Kevin might cheat on Eniko, Torrei made the following point.

“He cheated on me. What makes her any different?”

After the unlawful shooting death of unarmed teen Mike Brown by Officer Darren Wilson on August 9, organizations and celebrities alike are offering to pay his funeral and memorial services in full.

Rev. Al Sharpton and the National Action Network are the latest to offer to pay for the 18-year-old’s funeral. The information was released during a news conference Tuesday afternoon on the steps of the Old Courthouse in downtown St. Louis. Sharpton, along with Pastor Jamal Bryant went to St. Louis Tuesday to meet with Brown’s family and to call for peace amid the unrest in Ferguson.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. also wrote a letting offering to cover the funeral services, but they have requested the expenses are not to be shared with any other person or organization.

Kimora Lee Simmons, a native of St. Louis, also offered financial help with the service. She also started a Go Fund Me page,  for the Michael Brown Memorial Fund, asking sympathizers to send financial support to the family.

The page was set up on August 13 and has raised over $88,000 dollars as of press time. The page states funds will be used “by the Brown family to cover funeral and burial expenses, travel and living expenses of the parents as they seek justice for their son, Michael Brown, Jr.”

President Barack Obama appeared conflicted during a press conference Monday evening about the racially-charged events happening in Ferguson, MO and worldwide, after the release of unarmed teen Mike Brown’s autopsy. Dr. Michael Baden, a former New York City chief medical examiner, performed the private autopsy and found the teen was shot at least six times, including twice in the head. Officer Darren Wilson, a white man, has been identified as the shooter.

During the brief White House press conference, the President chose his words carefully to avoid further aggravating passionate protesters demanding justice for Mike Brown. Obama’s speech attempted to provide balance to a nation, passionately divided by a history of racial tension, while upholding the country’s need to police those who are using the movement as a means to engage in criminal behavior, such as looting.

“We’ve got to make sure that we are able to distinguish between peaceful protesters who may have some legitimate grievances and maybe long-standing grievances, and those who are using this tragic death as an excuse to engage in criminal behavior,” he said.

Obama commented that he will steer clear of interfering with the investigation happening in Missouri, so he doesn’t appear to be taking sides. Instead, he said that Attorney General Eric Holder will travel to Ferguson to meet with the FBI and other Department of Justice officials for an independent federal investigation into Brown’s death. Additionally, he will oversee the use of the National Guard to determine where the operation is helping or hurting day-to-day operations in Ferguson.

“I have to be very careful about not prejudging these events before investigations are completed because … the DOJ works for me,” Obama said. “When they’re conducting an investigation, I’ve got to make sure that I don’t look like I’m putting my thumb on the scales one way or the other.”

Over the past few weeks President Obama has erred on the side of caution when speaking about the peaceful protests against the St. Louis police department by many of the city’s residents and others supporting the cause. The President and First Lady Michelle Obama expressed their condolences to the Brown family in a statement last week, calling Brown’s death heartbreaking. Pres. Obama urged the community to comfort each other and talk with one another in a way that heals, not in a way that wounds.

According to researchers at Columbia University Medical Center, the drug Ruxolitinib, used for the treatment of a rare bone marrow disease, may be a cure for alopecia areata. The findings were published in the journal Nature Medicine.

Researchers were able to fully regrow hair in mice within four to five months. The new hair lasted months after treatment ceased.

“We’ve only begun testing the drug in patients, but if the drug continues to be successful and safe, it will have a dramatic positive impact on the lives of people with this disease,” said Dr. Raphael Clynes, who led the research.

Alopecia, a disease that affects the immune system, causes hair to fall out in round patches. Immune cells damage the hair follicles, stopping them from re-growing, but ruxolitinib has caused the follicles to fight those immune cells.

The small new study on seven women and five men using ruxolitinib found that the drug restored hair growth fully in three patients with moderate-to-severe alopecia areata, within four to five months. Dr. David Bickers of CUMC’s Department of Dermatology calls the results “a major step forward in improving the standard of care for patients suffering from this devastating disease.”

Mississippi and Georgia are leading the pack of 30 states that saw an increase in unemployment in July, even as employers continue to add new jobs, according to statistics released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The trend shows that more people are seeking jobs nationwide as the economy continues to improve.

The U.S. unemployment average was 6.1 percent in June and rose to 6.2 percent in July. The Labor Department said Monday that unemployment rates lowered in eight states, while 12 states, including the District of Columbia, did not see a change from June’s statistics.

Mississippi had the highest unemployment rate in July with 8 percent, taking over from June’s leader Rhode Island. This is the state’s first month with the highest unemployment average since the 2008-2009 Great Recession, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Georgia came in second with 7.8 percent unemployment, barely missing the top spot. Michigan, Rhode Island, and Nevada tied for third highest with 7.7 percent.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics finds that as more people actively seek work, the unemployment rate tends to increase. The job market has looked bleak for many job-seekers in recent years, but the government says most hunting for jobs remain optimistic. Employers added 209,000 jobs. Texas lead in the area of job growth as employers added 46,600 jobs to the economy. California added 27,700 jobs. And Michigan follows with 17,900 new jobs.

A young eager bride was looking forward to her wedding day this past week, when she received the dreadful phone call that her fiance had committed suicide. Little did she know, the voice on the other end of the call was the scheming fiance himself.

Alex Lanchester, 23, of Sutton Coldfield, UK, had been planning her nuptials – but her fiance had other plans. He chickened out of the wedding and did so in the most delirious way possible… faking his own death. The fiance, Tucker Blandford, called Lanchester and pretended to be his father. He told the anxious bride-to-be that his son had been suffering depression and ran in front of a car – ending his life.

Naturally, Lanchester was surprised, stunned, and heartbroken. She calmed down after some time and later called the real parents back to offer her condolences. It was then that she found out that her fiance was indeed alive and well. To make matters worse, she found out that the parents were completely unaware that a wedding was to take place… they did not even know that the couple was still together.

It was possible for Blandford to live a double life, since he and his fiance’s relationship was long distance. They had met while studying at Connecticut University, where Lancaster was participating in a study-abroad program. They dated for one year and during that time Blandford proposed. Later, Lancaster returned home to the UK – and it appears Blandford continued his life in the US very much without her.

The jilted bride says that Blandford eventually admitted to the lies. “It may be our wedding day, but I’m going to spend it making my own awesome memories — without him,” she told the UK Mirror. Although she will not be using her flights and hotel accommodations for the honeymoon she so desired – Lancaster still plans to use the pre-paid trip to visit the US.

An Illinois mother has been arrested after using her health and her son’s as a money scheme. The 25-year-old mother, Melissa D Barton of Troy, Ill., has many sympathizers in-person and online. She has been telling friends, family, and all of those that will listen that she and her son are battling cancer. Barton has allegedly expressed the need for additional financial support to cover expenses such as rent, since their health care is so costly. The problem, however, is that neither Barton nor her son, who she claims has leukemia, have cancer at all.

The dishonest mother was arrested Aug. 13, 2014 at Springfield’s Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport for theft by deception. Barton has reportedly received between $500 and $10,000 in public donations and financial support.

Before her arrest, Barton was en route to appear on the popular “Dr. Phil” talk show, when she was arrested. Dr. Phil McGraw is known for featuring guests who are battling various traumas in their lives. Despite the previous allegations that Barton was dishonest about her health, she still planned to be guest on the show.

Allegations of the “fake-cancer mom” surfaced earlier this month. Since then, Barton has publicly disputed the claims. After being called out for writing a note asking for $600 from a church to pay her rent, she responded to Fox3 News, “I would like to see that because somebody must have forged my handwriting or signature because I didn’t write it.”

At this point, it is unclear when the alleged fraudulent mother is telling the truth. Further investigation is underway.

A 23-year-old Black man is dead after pulling out a knife a few feet away from two St Louis police officers. The incident happened a few miles away from the protests in Ferguson, said authorities. Shortly after, people moved in to chant “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot,” the phrase that alludes to Officer Darren Wilson fatally shooting unarmed Michael Brown.

According to Police Chief Sam Dotson, the 23 year old had stolen energy drinks and pastries from a convenient store. When police arrived, he was “acting erratically, walking back and forth, up and down the street.”

The man was ordered to put down the knife and supposedly showed no intention of doing so, therefore, the officers drew their weapons. The man then yelled to the police, “Shoot me now. Kill me now!”

The young man then took three or four steps towards the police and they fired. “One of the witnesses described it as a suicide by cop,” Chief Dotson said.

Protesters were asked to be peaceful as the incident scene was blocked off by yellow tape and law enforcement inundated the area. “The last thing we need is violence in our neighborhood,” Dotson said. “And that’s not going to be on the police to make sure there’s not violence in our neighborhood, that’s going to be on us. No silliness here.”

This shooting comes after 10 days of protests and turbulence in Ferguson for the shooting of Mike Brown. “I think we have a different situation here, handled much better,” he said. “This is not Ferguson.”

After being gunned downed by LAPD a week ago, many questions surrounding the shooting death of Ezell Ford still remain unanswered, and will continue to be at the behest of the police department.

A week ago, the unarmed 25 year-old was gunned down by police after an investigative episode turned ugly in South Los Angeles. Officers say that reports of the autopsy will not be released until the investigation is further along -a move meant to protect witnesses’ testimony from being “tainted,” LAPD’s Andrew Smith told KPCC.

Smith claims that the department wants “clean interviews” from witnesses and that he is afraid that releasing too much information on the autopsy could encourage witnesses to “use information from the autopsy to give credibility to their story.”

Activists have crowded the streets in support of Ezell Ford and are enraged by the blocking of his autopsy. Ezell Ford suffered  from schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression when he was shot three times and according to witnesses, complying with police’s orders.

Local demonstrators demanded answers, forcing LAPD to complete a full investigation and be transparent with their findings. An officer claimed Ford was “aggressive” when being questioned and that he reached for his gun.

Ezell Ford is one of four unarmed Black men gunned down by police in the matter of weeks- two days after the killing of Michael Brown.

Jennifer Hudson‘s personal life has been rocked once again by violence.. Hudson’s half-brother Steven Simpson was allegedly arrested for repeatedly stabbing a man in the face. According to reports, the victim was involved in a relationship with Simpson’s estranged wife.

Just two years ago, William Balfour, the estranged husband of Hudson’s sister Julia, received three life sentences for the 2008 murders of JHud’s mother, brother, and nephew Julian King. Hudson responded to that tragedy in The Guardian Observer by saying that she has “seen the highest of the highs and the lowest of the lows.”  She continued, “You don’t know how strong you are until you are placed in that kind of moment.”

Hudson and her sister created a foundation in honor of young King that provides local Chicago children with school supplies.

There has been no comment from Hudson yet regarding Simpson’s arrest. He is currently in custody in Paw Paw, Michigan. Simpson might also be charged with home invasion and attempted murder.

No president wants to be known as that president: the one who oversaw a period of social unrest and rioting.  Presidents can deal with wars or natural disasters.  They can even deal with contagions or national public health hazards.  But in the case of what’s transpiring in Ferguson, Missouri, President Obama – wager it – would rather be managing an Ebola outbreak than having to deal with what are now endless nights of protests and mornings where we’re waking up to yet more reports of violent clashes.

Ordering calibrated airstrikes on evil black-clad bands of Islamic State terrorists roaming the Iraqi countryside is, relatively speaking, easy. You can even enjoy a bit of dark humor playing geopolitical chess with Russian President Vladimir Putin as you attempt to contain the Ukraine crisis.

But it’s clear, based on the nearly monotone and diffident way in which the president is responding to events on the ground in Ferguson, he wants to be nowhere near this kind of shit. This is what he read in history books, sharpening his skills eons ago as a community organizer on the hardened streets of Chicago. White presidents deal with protests and riots. Black presidents? There’s no precedent for that, Black people typically celebrated and/or vilified as the humble, defenseless protesters demanding justice and peace. In the post-racial America, race riots weren’t allowed, much less having them erupt during a Black president’s watch.

And, as you can feel the heavy head-shaking grumblings of Black folks wanting more from their first Black president, here are a few reasons why he’d rather stay vacationing in Martha’s Vineyard than take this mess more head on than he already has:

(1) ‘It’s My Legacy.’  Obama has had two good terms of a legacy as the First Black President of the most powerful nation on the planet.  Even if he’s remembered as the president Republicans refused to work with, he’s still made history.  In other words, he’s set.  But Ferguson, in all its strange ways, completely trashes that narrative and makes everyone forget the feel-good racial transcendence that, arguably, put him there in the first place.

(2) Republicans Could Retake the Senate – Ferguson Gives Them the Keys. Here’s a Pew Research graph that Democrats should be worried about only two months away from the Congressional midterm elections:

And the president might be watching those numbers, too, which explains his milquetoast seeing-it-from-both-sides approach.  More than likely, Congressional Democrats are hoping Ferguson doesn’t blow up into a fresh new wedge issue that Republicans can count on.  The president, already a perpetual target of racial taunts, doesn’t want them to.  But if the issue of race keeps heating up, Republicans might get more their usual share of Caucasian votes in November. Think about it from their perspective for a moment: a Black president siding with the uncontrollable Black “protesters” and “rioters” with nothing constructive to do but hate on the cops just doing their job. It’s already starting, the conservative bloggers are lighting it up.  Incidentally, it’s also a reason presumptive 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has been awfully mum on the issue, too.  No one wants to end up having their comments sliced and diced into a Republican campaign ad.

(3) ‘I’ve Got Other Things on My Plate, Fam.’ Presidents by their nature are multi-tasking human beings.  Their ability to run a decision or play on any number of problems simultaneously is what gets them in the White House. In this particular case, Obama already has enough happening – the entire expanse of the Middle East is blowing up all at once into a virtual Armageddon scenario (with a slaughtered American journalist raising the stakes); he’s only a step away from, at the very least, a conventional weapons clash between NATO and the Russian Federation should things continue to devolve in eastern Europe; he’s trying to keep the peace in Asia where China and Japan are saber rattling; and while he’s steering a slow economic recovery, he’s got to constantly face belligerent Republicans who won’t work with him and are poised to solidify their grip on the Congress.  Ferguson, in the grander scheme of things, is that smallest fish in the frying pan he’d rather pass along to an Attorney General who’s made a career out of getting embroiled in this stuff.

(4) The Feds Can’t Step Too Deep into State Shit. He’s in a complex damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t situation.  If he doesn’t show that he’s, at the very least, optically in control of the situation or using a massive show of federal resources at his disposal, he’s going to get criticism from black folks that he’s selling out and other folks that he’s too weak and indecisive.  But if he heads in to strong, rambling conservatives who’ve always painted him as “King Obama” will say he’s using federal resources to encroach on state rights – something he’s got to watch carefully in Missouri where the Republican-dominated legislature just passed a bill nullifying federal gun laws.  Too much federal presence in Missouri under this particular president sparks more political polarization and a pre-Civil War-like revival that’s already worsened during clashes over the Affordable Care Act.

(5) This Isn’t Trayvon Martin. There are just as many differences between Sandford, Florida and Ferguson, Missouri than there are similarities.  Yes: two young, before-their-prime unarmed Black men were fatally shot.  But the difference here is that one was shot by a police officer and one was not.  That’s a big difference.  And, it’s probably one reason why Obama isn’t saying anything like “Michael Brown could have been my son” (other than the fact he used that line already).  It’s easier to call out an idiotic, trigger-happy private citizen with a gun than it is a law enforcement officer, especially after the president had political hell to pay in 2009 just for criticizing the judgment of a Cambridge, MA police officer who cuffed his Ivy League buddy up.  He’s not going out on that limb anymore, especially after video surfaces of Brown allegedly snatching cigars from a convenience store.  It’s much more complex and a treacherous game of sharp political eggshells when the police are the perpetrators.

Moss will play 19-year-old hacker Brody “Baby Face” Nelson, who has been ordered by a judge to work with Special Agent Avery Ryan in exchange for avoiding jail time. The troubled teen joined hacker groups where he gained an extended family and a reputation as one of the most prolific hackers on the Internet. Nelson will struggle with leaving behind his past life as a notorious “hacktivist” while learning to work with the feds to fight cyber crime.

Anthony E. Zuiker, creator of the CSI franchise, is excited to welcome Moss to the ensemble cast that already includes James Van Der Beek, Peter MacNicol, and Charley Koontz.

“Bow Wow is a gifted young actor who will have the responsibility, through his character, to set an example for young people who watch the show to ‘do what’s right’ even when you know ‘nothing but wrong,’ ” Zuiker said. “It will be a redemption story and a cautionary tale all wrapped into one. So instead of cheering her on from the sidelines, he decided to get into better shape, himself, to stick around for a longer time with their daughter.

Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo was listed at 235 pounds in his New York Knicks profile earlier the 2013-2014 NBA season, but he’s obviously not clocking in at that weight anymore. The 30-year-old small forward and his trainer Idan Ravin are working together to ensure that his body can maintain the stress and rigors that playing professional basketball puts on the body. As Ravin told ESPN News, “When you’re driving a Lamborghini you’re going to put the most expensive gas in it. It’s important. They’re not 18 years old anymore.” Carmelo and his trainer won’t release how many pounds he’s lost or his training regimen, but we can say the weight loss looks good on the baller.

Rick Ross

Rick Ross may have dropped 100 pounds since he started taking his health seriously, but he’s still the “biggest boss that you’ve seen thus far.” The Miami-based rapper who once said, “The most I used to do for exercise was stand up to count the money,” made changes to his diet and exercise regimen. He started working with Crossfit trainers as a part of his Reebok deal last fall. But fans started taking notice this summer of just how much those “little workouts” were paying off for Ross. Never one to shy away from taking off his shirt for the cameras, Ross showed off his weight loss alongside Chris Brown and Usher in the video for “New Flame.”

Dwyane Wade

Miami Heat baller Dwyane Wade has taken the news of Lebron James’ departure from the team as a challenge to step up his game and eating habits during the off-season. Ray Allen has been an inspiration in helping his former teammate cut back on foods high in starch and dairy products. Instead of traveling the world and eating foreign cuisine, Wade has opted for veggies and foods that fuel his intense workouts. Last season, Wade spent a considerable time away from the court to maintain his knees and overall health. With less weight on his body, he’s hoping to assist his teammates in earning another NBA title. Seemingly shy about the number of pounds he’s dropped, he only said that he’s not at the weight he was during training camp.

Lebron James

After announcing he is going home to play for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Lebron James is determined to return as the best player he can physically be. Over the summer he’s been working with nutritionist Dr. Cate Shanahan to manage his sugar intake and work on a lower-carbohydrate diet. Shanahan has taught James to rely less on carbs that turn into sugar, which in turn slows down his performance. Shanahan said that by limiting the number of carbs James consumes daily, his body can burn fat first and increase his weight loss. James is in on the joke that his 6′ 8 frame is slimmer than before, posting viral memes of himself on Instagram. Let’s see if that work pays off during his comeback season with the Cavs.

In the midst of the viral Ice Bucket Challenge craze, which is being used to raise awareness of ALS/Lou Gehrig’s disease, actor Orlando Jones has started his own bucket challenge — without the ice. Using bullet shell casings instead, Jones drenches himself with the shells to represent the lives that were sadly cut short as a result of police brutality.

Jones’ mission with his Bullet Bucket Challenge is to bring attention to police violence against African Americans that has dominated headlines in recent weeks. Recent killings of unarmed African American men, including Mike Brown, Eric Garner, Ezell Ford, and John Crawford has ignited protests and police backlash. The Bullet Bucket Challenge is more of a statement compared to the charitable fundraising initiative of the Ice Bucket Challenge. But nonetheless, just watching Jones pour numerous bullet shell casings over his head is powerful. See for yourself …

The co-founder of the Ice Bucket Challenge, Corey Griffin, died over the weekend by drowning. The 27 year old, who started the challenge after a close friend was diagnosed with the degenerative disease, accidentally drowned after diving from a building located on Straight Wharf into the water off the coast of Nantucket, Mass. around 2 a.m.

Before his death, the ALS bucket challenge raised over $15 million dollars in donations.
