japan-iphone-softbankA Chinese teen is dead following an apparent electrocution from her iPhone 4s. She was discovered by her older sister on July 24 after the sister “smelled something burning.”

The 18 year old, of Xinjiang, suffered multiple burns and was found lying next to her phone with a shattered screen. The Forensic Science Association of China concluded that electrocution was in fact the cause of her death. There’s no word on what kind of charger the teen was using.

This story comes after a teen’s pillow caught on fire from a smartphone placed under it. Luckily, Ariel Tolfree was uninjured. But another Chinese person wasn’t so fortunate.

Last year, a Chinese flight attendant Ma Ailun died from answering her iPhone 5 as it charged. Her death was later linked to her using a third party charger, rather than one from Apple.

Apple released a statement, “We are deeply saddened to learn of this tragic incident and offer our condolences to the Ma family. We will fully investigate and cooperate with authorities in this matter.”

So far, there’s been no word from Apple Inc. on the latest charging iPhone death.

Thursday nights will officially be called “Shondaland,” Shonda Rhimes prepares the fall season of “Scandal,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and newcomer “How to Get Away with Murder.” Rhimes sat down with leading ladies Kerry Washington, Viola Davis, and Ellen Pompeo to promote the fall season on ABC.

“Shondaland” is filled with more drama and we’re here for it. The promo reveals tidbits from each series, including sneak peeks of the new series “How To Get Away With Murder,” starring Davis.

“It’s historic,” Washington said referring to all three shows premiering on Sept. 25, and Rhimes sewing up ABC’s prime-time viewing Thursday nights. But don’t expect any plot teasers …

When asked if she would give any spoilers, Rhimes’ lips were sealed. Uganda’s Anti-Gay Law Ruled ‘Null and Void’

Activists celebrated as a court invalidated Uganda’s anti-gay law, declaring the legislation illegal because it was passed during a parliamentary session that lacked a quorum.

Although the measure was declared invalid, the state could appeal the ruling in the Supreme Court, as legislators could try to reintroduce new anti-gay measures. The anti-gay law provided jail sentences to anyone engaging in homosexual sex. It also allowed long jail stints for those convicted of offenses such as, “attempted homosexuality” or “promotion of homosexuality.”

uptown_ugandaantigaylawThe bill was passed on December 20, 2013 as the speaker of the parliament acted illegally when she allowed a vote on the measure, despite at least three objections, including the country’s prime minister, according to the panel of five judges on the East African country’s Constitutional Court. Ever since its passing, activists and protestors had acted against Uganda’s anti-gay law, claiming it violated certain rights guaranteed in the constitution.

The anti-gay legislation was enacted on Feb. 24 by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, who said he wanted to deter Western groups from promoting homosexuality amongst African children.

The daughter of a flight attendant has been charged with murder and burglary charges for killing her mother after authorities found her lifeless body in the trunk of her car. Alyssa Barrett, 17, and boyfriend, Damarius Wren, 18, are both charged with first degree murder.

Wren was arrested after Crown Point, Indiana police found a GPS in the home that pin pointed where Decarol Deloney-Cain‘s body was dumped. Deloney-Cain, 54, a highly praised United Airlines flight attendant who had never missed a day of work, could only be identified by the serial number on her breast implants.

She was reported missing when she didn’t show up for work. Barrett was allegedly upset at her mother for wanting her to get an abortion.

uptown_decaroldeloneycain

The victim’s other daughter, whose name has been withheld and has not been charged, told police she witnessed Wren place a pillowcase over her mother’s head, hitting her head against the stairs before stabbing her with a kitchen knife. Deloney-Cain, mother of three, suffered multiple stab wounds and blunt trauma to the head. uptown_damariuswren

Police reports the daughter hid upstairs as two of Wren’s friend came to help dispose of the body, which was covered in plastic bags. Court documents states she withdrew cash from her mother’s bank account, while being threatened with a gun.

The Chicago Sun Times reported that Barrett had also “frequently talked of robbing and/or killing her mother,” according to court records. They planned the gruesome attack around Deloney-Cain’s pay date.

Both teens are being held without bond.

UPTOWN_ebola_outbreakA U.S. aid worker, who contracted the deadly Ebola virus, will return home from West Africa for treatment. The patient, whose name has not been released, will be transported to the high-security ward at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. The unit was set up in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Ebola symptoms typically starting within two to three weeks after contracting the virus, with a fever, throat and muscle pains, and headaches, followed by nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. The liver and kidneys begin to malfunction. The disease is contagious, and is typically carried by monkeys, pigs, and fruit bats.

Barbara Reynolds, spokesperson for the CDC, stated that they are unaware of any Ebola patient ever being treated in the United States, but five people have entered the country with either Lassa Fever or Marburg Fever, hemorrhagic fevers similar to Ebola within the past decade.

News of the transfer follows reports of the declining health of two infected U.S. aid workers, Dr. Kent Brantly and missionary Nancy Writebol, who contracted Ebola while working in Liberia on behalf of North Carolina-based Christian relief groups Samaritan’s Purse and SIM. Brantly and Writebol were last reported in “stable but grave” condition.

The outbreak in West Africa is the worst in history, having killed more than 700 people since February.

Brandy Explains Why She Lied About Marriage [VIDEO]

Brandy-on-Oprahs-Where-Are-They-Now

No one lies to Oprah and that is why Brandy has decided to come clean about her marriage to music producer Robert Smith. Brandy sat down with Oprah on “Where Are They Now” to address her reasoning.

In 2002, she appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” newly “married” and pregnant. Visibly thrilled, Brandy told Oprah that she and Smith had married secretly the summer prior.

After their daughter was born, a nasty split caused her ex-boyfriend to spill the beans. There had never been a marriage. “At that time, being pregnant out of wedlock was not a trend,” Brandy says in the video. “It was a sin.”

This was a scandal for America’s clean-cut sweetheart and critics began questioning whether Brandy’s whole image was fabricated. “I felt the pressure of having to be perfect. And I was scared,” she admits in the interview. “I thought that everything that I have worked hard for and everything that I worked to build — the image that I worked so hard to build — was threatened.”

Watch the preview of Brandy’s interview on “Oprah: Where Are They Now?” that airs August 3 at 9 p.m. ET on OWN.

EXCLUSIVE: You’ll Like the Way Hi-Five is Playing Today’s Music Game

hi five 2014

The Texas quintet known as HI-FIVE graced radio waves in the nineties with their Billboard chart topper “I Like The Way (The Kissing Game).” No longer confined to a decade of music, HI-FIVE returns with a bang. Triumphing over an extended hiatus, death, and label transitions, the R&B staples return with two new members, but with the familiar sound longtime fans fell in love with. With a new EP and single, the group takes us back to the glory days of music past: summer music of love, substance and real content.

HI-FIVE (Marcus, Treston, Billy, Faruq, and Shannon) spoke with UPTOWN in an exclusive interview and revealed why they were gone so long, group turmoil, what’s missing from today’s R&B and what fans can expect from their first album in nine years.

UPTOWN: How have you updated your sound for today while still remaining familiar to your longtime fans?

Treston: We wanted to make sure we didn’t lose any fans, we wanted to give them what they’re used to, with a recipe from our man Tony Thompson who is no longer with us. We wanted to continue to have the HI-FIVE sound but make it relevant to today but with a ’90s twist everybody is begging for.

We added Faruq and Billy who will give a different dimension to the group as well.

U: After commercial and Billboard chart success, what specifically contributed to the group’s disappearance?

Marcus: [There were] a lot of different aspects that contributed to our hiatus. The lead singer wanted to do his solo project and it was well deserved for him to do it. The record company we were signed to at the time were having some business issues that left us hanging. We decided we were going to just sit out and it ended up being some years.

U: What did you do in your off time?

Marcus: We’ve all been in our individual spaces, dealing with families. I’m sure we all have children. We’ve done music in between but now we feel the chemistry is right and this is what we need to do to get ourselves back in the public eye.

U: How did you go about choosing the lead single, “It’s Nothing” from your new album, HI-FIVE, THE EP, set for an August 12  release?

Treston: We go through a process similar to what everybody else goes through. We let certain music execs listen to the whole project and weigh in.

Marcus Sanders, Shannon Gill, Treston Irby, Faruq Evans and Billy Covington.

Hi Five: (from left) Marcus Sanders, Shannon Gill, Treston Irby, Faruq Evans and Billy Covington. Credit: TV One

U: Former member of the group, Russell Neal, has been charged with his wife’s murder. Will his trial have a negative impact on the group?

Marcus: It’s definitely going to have an impact. Much respect to Russell, he hasn’t been a member of the group since the ’90s. We want the fans to know we send our condolences to both families. Russell’s not a member anymore and I hope his situations pans out where everyone can understand but we want to continue doing music as the group HI-FIVE.

U: Has anyone spoken with him?

Treston: Nobody has spoken with him and I’m quite sure we won’t speak with him.

U: Usually when groups reunite there’s always a reality show involved. Aside from your episode of TV One’s “Unsung” airing August 6, any other reality shows in the works?

Treston: We’ve been approached by a couple of production companies, but we’re waiting on the right situation. If the situation is right, holla!

hi five july 2014

U: What are your opinions on today’s music? What’s missing, if anything?

Billy: Writing and production is my thing. Music is missing that mind twist. You hear records on the radio and it’s like, “What can we get away with saying on a record?” They don’t put you in another place where you’re sitting. When I hear a record, I want the record to transcend me, change my attitude or my mood.  Music today is lacking substance. It [music] becomes so commercial many writers are forgetting the fans. A lot of it is lost in translation.

Treston: Music these days is missing life. Back in the 90s, music was more alive, you could feel everything. These days music is more mechanical. That’s why with our new EP we want to make sure our music is alive and breathing and not compressed. Fans are missing that sound, our age group want that. We’re not old, we still want to dance, or attend a party with nice music and not worry about hearing foul language all the time and disrespecting women.

Faruq: I’m huge on love and I see none of that any more. I see everything about poppin’ bottles or girls ain’t loyal. R&B made a wrong turn, it’s not dead but it made a wrong turn. We don’t cater to the women any more, everything is about divorce papers or getting over. I feel like the love is missing.

Treston: You can’t dedicate songs to your woman anymore!

Faruq: There’s no relevancy now and that’s where we are coming in. We’re going to bridge that gap. Whatever you want to call it, we’re going to be the band aid to mend it.

Marcus: The auto tune helped some people come off with a better sound but it’s not acceptable for the artists who’re genuine out here. Emotional content is missing.

U: What do you want to be remembered for?

Marcus: As the guys who overcame every trial in the music industry. We’ve had a lot of ups and downs and we’re still here doing music to give the fans.

Faruq: We’re going to be the group to triumph over our tribulations.

Treston: As the group that never quit and never gave up.

Eric Garner’s Death Ruled A Homicide, Victim’s Mother ‘Grateful’ For ME’s Report

Eric GarnerA New York City medical examiner has ruled the death of Eric Garner a homicide, pointing to the chokehold placed on him by an NYPD officer.

On Friday, ME spokeswoman Julie Bolcer said the 43-year-old husband and father was killed by “the compression of his chest and prone positioning during physical restraint by police.” She said asthma, heart disease and obesity were also contributing factors.

Eric Garner’s mother, Gwen Carr, said her first words after the death being ruled a homicide were “Thank you, Jesus.” She is also said to be grateful for the findings and the family is seeking justice for Garner.

Garner died July 17 in State Island following a run-in with the police over his alleged sale of untaxed cigarettes. In a video that has gone viral, he can be seen arguing with cops and asking them to leave him alone before officer Daniel Pantaleo puts him in a chokehold, a move prohibited by NYPD departmental policy.

The NYPD has yet to speak out about the medical examiner’s ruling, but Pantaleo remains on desk duty as he’s been stripped of his gun and badge. Four emergency workers have also been suspended without pay.

The death is currently being investigated by at least four authorities which include the Staten Island district attorney, the police department’s internal affairs bureau, the city’s inspector general of police and the city’s Civilian Complaint Review Board. Additionally, Attorney General Eric Holder has said the Justice Department is “closely monitoring” the investigation.

Naked Grandmother Dragged From Apartment By NYPD Officers

NYPD

The NYPD is once again under fire for a new viral video showing officers dragging a naked grandmother from her Brooklyn apartment last month, reports the New York Daily News.

Denise Stewart, 48, was in her Brownsville apartment on July 13 when police arrived at the residence in response to a domestic disturbance in the building. The woman reportedly cracked the door wearing only a towel wrapped around her body and underpants when she was pulled into the hallway by cops.

The video shows officers yanking her out of the apartment and forcing her to the ground as she’s handcuffed. Her family and neighbors can be heard yelling in the footage as Stewart, who has severe asthma, screams out for oxygen.

Stewart was left bare-breasted in the hallway for more than two minutes before a female cop brought a towel to cover her exposed body. The woman spoke with the Daily News about the incident.

“It’s disgusting and embarrassing. I’ve been married 16 years. It took my husband 10 years to see my nakedness,” she said. “I didn’t do nothing wrong.”

The NYPD said they got a 911 call to the address, but didn’t have an apartment number. They knocked at Stewart’s door when they heard shouting, but she told them they had the wrong place and tried to shut the door. The report continues:

“Cops said Stewart’s 12-year-old daughter has “visible injuries” and told them her mother and older sister beat her with a belt. The report continues:

Cops removed the 12-year-old from the apartment and say she refused to get into the police car and kicked the door. A police spokesman said the child kicked out one of the police van’s windows, with the broken glass cutting the chin of one of the cops. The cops were treated at local hospitals and released.

Denise Stewart was charged with assaulting a police officer, and — along with her oldest daughter, Diamond Stewart, 20, — resisting arrest, acting in a manner injurious to a child and criminal possession of a weapon.

Stewart’s son Kirkland Stewart, 24, was charged with resisting arrest. The 12-year-old was charged with assaulting a police officer, criminal mischief and criminal possession of a weapon.

Diamond Stewart’s 4-year-old son was also pepper sprayed, the family said.”

Amy Rameau, Stewart’s lawyer, said she was told by a Legal Aid attorney also assigned to the case that the 911 call came from a different apartment on an upper floor and cops went to Stewart’s door by mistake. She also clarified that Stewart’s daughter suffered no injuries as claimed in the complaint.

“They manhandled [Stewart] and behaved in a deplorable manner,” Rameau said. “She feels completely mortified. This is about human dignity.”

A police spokesman said the incident is currently under investigation by Internal Affairs.

Nicole Murphy and Michael StrahanMichael Strahan and Nicole Murphy‘s happily ever after has faded away. The couple have decided to call it quits after a five-year engagement.

A rep for the television host and former NFL star confirmed the news with PEOPLE, stating that life and career got in the way. The announcement was made just a day before Strahan was to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

“They love each other very much, but with the distance and work schedule it has been hard to maintain the relationship,” the rep said. Murphy’s rep also verified the news.

Strahan and Murphy began dating in 2007 and were engaged by June 2009. Both were previously married (Strahan to Wanda Hutchins and Jean Muggli; Nicole to Eddie Murphy) and have nine children between them.

As recent as July, both stars spoke about their relationship and their rather lengthy engagement, but nothing seemed to be out of order. In an interview with The Jasmine Brand, Murphy said she was not worried about following anyone’s timetable.

“I’m not under the pressure. It seems like everyone else is,” she said. “Everyone’s like ‘You all together? What’s going on? How come I haven’t seen you post a picture of him?’ And I’m like, ‘It’s none of ya’ll’s business at this point.’ I’m good!”

In the August 2014 issue of Ebony magazine, Strahan said: “For us it’s key that we maintain normalcy. We have a great life. People can buy into their own celebrity, and that’s a dangerous thing.”

Flawless

Nearly three months after Elevatorgate, Beyoncé is speaking out about the infamous video of her sister Solange Knowles attacking her husband JAY Z. Just don’t expect her to go into full detail.

On Saturday, the singer released a remix to “Flawless” with Nicki Minaj hopping on the Hit-Boy/Boots-produced track. Beyoncé took the opportunity to address the family scuffle that made headlines around the world.

“Of course sometimes shit go down when there’s a billion dollars on an elevator,” she said, repeating the line for emphasis. Beyoncé and JAY Z’s combined worth is estimated between $900 million and $1 billion, so everything checks out.

The line was a rare mention of the incident which occurred back in May. Solange referred to the altercation as “that thing” during an interview with Lucky magazine, following the threesome’s joint statement.

“What’s important is that my family and I are all good,” she told the glossy. “What we had to say collectively was in the statement that we put out, and we all feel at peace with that.”

Beyoncé and JAY Z will wrap up the American leg of their “On The Run” tour on Aug. 6. They will go on to perform Sept. 12 and Sept. 13 in Paris.

Paul GeorgeIndiana Pacers star Paul George is expected to miss the 2014-15 NBA season due to the open tibia-fibula fracture he suffered during Friday’s Team USA scrimmage.

Doctors say the athlete’s late-night surgery was a “success” and no ancillary damage was found. USA Basketball announced early Saturday that George is expected to remain in the hospital for three days. Sources say the guard will likely miss all of next season.

The injury occurred as George was in transition defense. He leaped to challenge a layup by James Harden when he landed awkwardly on his right foot. The scrimmage was discontinued due to the severity of the injury, much like that of former Louisville guard Kevin Ware in March 2013.

George seemed to be in pretty good spirits following the injury. On Friday, he hopped on Twitter to thank his fans and supporters during this difficult time.

“Thanks everybody for the love and support..I’ll be ok and be back better than ever!!! Love y’all!! #YoungTrece,” he wrote.

Larry Bird, the Pacers president of basketball operations, also chimed in. In an official statement, he said: “It is way too early to speculate on his return as the No. 1 priority for everyone will be his recovery. Our initial discussions with our doctors and the doctors in Las Vegas have us very optimistic.”

Photo courtesy of Ethan Miller/Getty Images North America

“There is no question about the impact on our team but our goal is to be as strong-willed and determined as Paul will be in coming back…Any discussion regarding the future of our team would be inappropriate at this time. Our focus is solely on Paul and doing whatever we can to help.”

Mathew Knowles Is Teaching Queen Bey 101

beyonce-knowles-mathew-knowlesThe former manager, who masterminded Destiny’s Child‘s and Beyoncé‘s success, is taking his talents to the classroom. Next month, Mathew Knowles is teaching a course on how to make it in the entertainment industry. It will be a one-day boot camp experience at Houston Community College Central.

It’s no secret that Knowles credits himself with the super-stardom of his daughter and the massive success of former girl group, Destiny’s Child. He believes he knows the entertainment industry in and out after 20 years of experience in it. He also knows how to push rising stars to their full potential. Although he and Beyoncé are not on the best of terms (and have not been in a while), Knowles is still using his daughter for capital gain, but this time without embezzling her cash. He’s just using the Knowles name instead — right?

MathewKnowles_banner

The day-long, intensive training, scheduled for September 13th, is titled “The Entertainment Industry: How Do I Get In?” Students can expect to “leave with real information, contacts and strategies for their own successful entertainment endeavors,” according to the course website. It seems a lot of money can be made from this course, especially for Knowles who is still paying child support.

The class is a pricey $295 per person, and $350 the day of the event. For that price, I’d hope to learn all the tricks from Queen Bey herself…but I would not count on her making an appearance.

Celebrating 10 Years of UPTOWN with Keija Minor

uptown keija minorFoBy Isoul Harris

“UPTOWN was doing something that no other publication was,” says Massachusetts-born and Washington, DC-bred Keija Minor, of the time when she joined the magazine. “And it still speaks to a niche audience of professional, stylish, affluent African-Americans, and not just about business but about their lifestyle.” Following successful stints at Gotham, LA Confidential and Aspen Peak, the one-time corporate lawyer took the helm of the UPTOWN. As a graduate of UMass Amherst and Howard University School of Law, Minor was a living representation of the burgeoning brand.

“UPTOWN is special because it’s literally written by, for and about the same audience. During my time, we covered what our friends were doing, what we were wearing and where our crowd was going on vacation,” she says. “For me, it was a chance to break new ground.”

What excited you about joining the team at UPTOWN?

I initially turned down the job. But about a week later, I bumped into co-founder Len Burnett in an elevator. It was a sign. We were both heading to a Democratic fundraiser, and by the time the doors opened on the top floor, I was all in. Len could sell snow in the winter! And on top of him being very persuasive, the opportunity to build a media company from the ground up that celebrated the black community in a positive way was such an amazing opportunity. Passing it up would have haunted me for years!

What is your fondest memory?

I loved the camaraderie among the staff. The office buzzed with what I think of as scrappy startup energy. The entire edit team was in one loft space together, and our art director would ring a bell every time he completed a page. No matter what we were doing, even if we were on a conference call, we would stop and clap every time we heard that bell. It sounds silly and random, but at 10 p.m. on a Friday night, when you’re putting the finishing touches on an issue that you’ve spent the last month poring over, it all makes sense—trust me.

You made history as Condé Nast’s first black EIC in 2012. How do you feel about such a historical distinction?

I had always wanted to work at Condé Nast, so to become editor-in-chief (at Brides) was an incredible feeling. Certainly, a sense of pride comes with being the first person to do anything. And telling my grandmother, who has seen both black people and women accomplish so much in her lifetime, was a huge moment. But, I want my legacy to be that I was a smart and impactful editor—and also the first African American editor-in-chief at Condé Nast.

Do you feel pressure to succeed, being that you are blazing a trail?

Condé Nast empowers its editors to think like entrepreneurs. Each editor-in-chief is captain of his or her own brand. I think anyone who truly loves his or her job feels internal pressure to succeed.

What is the importance of UPTOWN?

It defies stereotypes and celebrates the sophisticated lifestyle of affluent African Americans. No other magazine celebrates this lifestyle in the same way!

Killer Picture: Drunk Man Takes A Deadly Selfie

Oscar Otero Aguilar dies after posing with a gun for a selfie.

Selfies are all the rage on social media, but in this case, shooting a selfie lead to the death of a veterinarian.

Authorities in Mexico City say 21 year old Oscar Otero Aguilar had been drinking with his friends when he decided to snap a selfie for Facebook. Aguilar decided to pose in the selfie by pointing a loaded gun at his face. Guess he never saw the classic movie,  A Christmas Story, when Ralph’s parents repeatedly said “You’ll shoot your eye out!”

As Aguilar posed, the .45 caliber gun discharged, hitting him in the temple. Neighbors in the area heard the gunshot and called police. When police arrived, Aguilar was still alive, but he died a short time later.

Police say that Aguilar’s death appears to be an accident, but an autopsy will take place this week to confirm that. Where were Aguilar’s drinking buddies? Well, Abner Campos Vives was held for questioning, and another friend with the nickname “El Paco” is on the run. (Not with Bey and Jay.)

Stranger Danger: 12 Celebrities With Obsessive Stalkers

UPTOWN_celebrity_stalkers

Cheesy ’80s songs aside, stalking is a seriously scary situation. According to the National Center for Victims of Crime, 6.6 million people are victims of stalking each year in the United States. One in 6 women and 1 in 19 men have been stalked at some point during their lives. And victims of stalking are more likely to suffer from anxiety, insomnia, social dysfunction, and severe depression.

The rise of geo-tagging on social media — no, you may not use my location — makes stalking that much easier. Couple that with ruthless paparazzi, devoted fans, and eerily detailed search results, and celebrities are at risk for harassment more than ever before. What’s even more frightening is that these harassers are not just after an autograph or a shoutout on Twitter. Many harbor angry, deluded feelings toward the celebs, and threaten heinous violence against them. Read on to see just a few celebrities with obsessive stalkers.

UPTOWN Robin Roberts

Just last week, a 43-year-old man was arrested after threatening to hurt “Good Morning America” host Robin Roberts. The man allegedly showed up at the ABC studio at least eight times during the month of June looking to see Roberts, and told the security director, “When I see her, I’m going to punch her in the face.”

UPTOWN Michael Strahan

It seems the “Good Morning America” set is prone to dangerous drop-ins. Weeks before Robin Roberts‘ stalker was arrested, NYPD and security guards apprehended a 25-year-old man when he showed up with a knife. He told police, “I was there to kill Michael Strahan.”

Singer Beyonce performs at the Rock in Rio Music Festival in Rio de Janeiro

Beyoncé has been forced to heighten her security detail, thanks to an obsessive British fan. She won a harassment suit against the man in 2011, after he sent her threatening letters and claimed she was a fake who had killed the real Queen Bey. But when the letters continued, her team reportedly went on high alert for her U.K. performances.

UPTOWN Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber was the victim of one of the most terrifying stalking cases of late, when two men were arrested for trying to kill and castrate him. The stalkers were reportedly executing a plan put together by a 45-year-old convicted murder, who told Details in 2013, “He changed, and that made me angry.”

UPTOWN Ashanti

Ashanti has more than one reason to call her new album Braveheart. The singer has been stuck in a drawn-out legal battle with a stalker. The 35-year-old man, who has already served two years in prison for sending inappropriate texts to Ashanti’s mother, is now awaiting trial for tweeting her more than 200 sexual messages and crotch shots.

UPTOWN Kim Kardashian

You knew this one was coming. While Kim Kardashian is all too willing to share details about her life with fans, one particularly persistent man has taken things too far. He reportedly evaded security at the Jenner home and claimed to be in a relationship with both Kris and Kendall Jenner, in hopes of getting close to Kim. The house is now under the watchful eye of a 24-hour armed guard.

UPTOWN Miley Cyrus

Earlier this year, Miley Cyrus was granted a restraining order against a 24-year-old man who stalked her at what he thought was her home. The man, who was taken to a psychiatric hospital, reportedly told police that he would keep pursuing Cyrus until he dies, and even asked them to shoot him if he couldn’t meet her.

UPTOWN Sandra Bullock

Oscar winner Sandra Bullock is beloved by many. But one 39-year-old fan’s affection put the actress in serious danger in June, when he appeared at her bedroom door in the middle of the night. After he was arrested, police searched his home and found letters referring to Bullock and her son as his wife and child, as well as a stash of illegal machine guns.

UPTOWN Sanaa Lathan

A 28-year-old man was arrested and charged after he broke into the home of Sanaa Lathan twice in one day. He was first discovered by contractors sleeping in her laundry room, and returned hours later while Lathan was home. When she ordered him to leave, he refused, saying that he was her husband.

UPTOWN Rihanna

Rihanna was recently involved in a stalking incident when a 53-year-old homeless man delivered letters to her staff threatening to “bum (rush)” her inside her SoHo apartment. He dropped by her building at least three times with letters claiming that she had ripped off his music, before dropping a benefits card inside the building, which police used to identify and arrest him.

Jennifer Lopez was the victim of a rather obsessive stalker — even by stalking standards — in 2013. Authorities arrested a 49-year-old retired firefighter who had been squatting in the singer’s guest house for six days without being discovered by any of her staff. The man parked his car right in front of the home and even posted numerous photos of himself on the property to his Facebook page.

UPTOWN Wendy Williams

In June, Wendy Williams dealt with her own case of stalking. Employees at “The Wendy Williams Show” called the police on a man who was repeatedly showing up to the set to meet her, and had even managed to sneak inside.  Staffers had asked the man not to return multiple times, but when he ignored requests, they involved the NYPD.

Reviews for the Beyonce and Jay Z On The Run tour are finger snapping good. However, on Saturday night in Los Angeles, for one concert goer, it was a finger biting type of time. Saturday at the Rose Bowl Stadium, a scuffle between two men ended up with one biting off the other’s finger tip, according to CBS Los Angeles.

Police say 25 year old Roberto Alcaraz Garnica groped a woman during the show, causing her boyfriend to snap. The woman’s boyfriend quickly turned a verbal exchange into a physical altercation with Garnica. Garnica must have been hungry, because he then bit off some of the boyfriend’s finger.

Garnica was later arrested and charged with mayhem, additional charges are pending. As for the boyfriend, he was taken to the hospital but there’s no word on if his finger was able to be reattached. It’s probably too late to advise that keeping your hands to yourself is just a minimum.

Representatives for Jay Z and Beyonce have not commented on the arrest at the concert, which drew an estimated 55,000 fans on day one of their two day show at the historic stadium for the couple’s On the Run tour.

Actor Anwan Glover was beaten and stabbed in a Washington, D.C. nightclub.

An actor from the hit HBO drama “The Wire” was stabbed at a nightclub in Washington, D.C. early Sunday morning. Anwan Glover, best known for his role as gang member Slim Charles on “The Wire,” told police he was at Café Asia when someone punched him from behind. Glover says he turned to face his attacker when another person hit him in the back of the head causing him to fall.

Glover says, he was then kicked multiple times while he was on the ground, and then he was stabbed. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and later released. The 41 year old took to Instagram to assure fans that he was OK and said, “My flesh maybe stabbed, but my spirit is unbreakable.”

So far, no arrests have been made. Glover is no stranger to being under attack. He reportedly had been shot 13 times while growing up in Washington, D.C. His son was also shot in 2011 in an incident involving his shoes. Glover has been an advocate for anti-violence and campaigned against gang violence.

Glover has also appeared in 12 Years A Slave, Luv, and the HBO series “Treme.” He is also the lead vocalist for a Go-Go group called Backyard Band.

Social Media Didn’t Ruin Your Relationship, You Did

UPTOWN_social_media_illustrationSocial media does not ruin relationships — people do. There are thousands of ways to meet, search, find, connect, hookup, and explore people online. Online dating is a billion dollar business. Twitter has spawned countless hookups and relationships. Facebook will reunite you with your elementary school crush, high school boyfriend, his cousin, and your prom date all within a few clicks. All of these outlets can bring you the love of your life, or the embarrassment of your life … Catfish anyone? With the influx of social media, texting, Instagram, and every other “gram” of some sort available, there was bound to be a backlash.

I have been reading comments from men and women about how social media ruined there relationship. Many of these comments have been directed at or made after someone has been caught cheating. Is it easier to have access to men and women who you would not normally meet while working at Target? Yes. Has social media made it easier for the “Average Joe” to communicate with the “Unattainable Girl”? Yes. Is it easy to fall for someone based on their Instagram pics? Yes. Does your ex really actually go away if you’re able to Facebook stalk their every move? No. Here are just a few other questions for you: Does Twitter have a penis? No. Does Instagram have a vagina? No. Does Facebook call you and ask you to go out? No. OK, just checking.

The last time I checked, making a conscious decision to actively pursue someone, whether it be through texting, Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, is a decision a man or woman makes on their own. Social media has definitely exacerbated the shift in our culture to not respect the boundaries of marriage and relationships. How many of us have hit on somebody we see online? You know you have, so don’t act like this is brand new. We see a celebrity, model, sports figure, or attractive guy/woman on our timeline and our hormones transform into a free for all of lustful comments, DMs, or “like” clicks on all of their Instagram pics.

We see someone we like, want, want to sleep with, or are curious about, and we have absolutely no filter in letting them know. Our phones and computer screens have become a safe place, a border if you will that not only grants us immediate access to anyone, but also does something to our psyche, and we are filled with an insane amount of confidence we’ve never had before. We post intimate pics of ourselves, we ask celebrities out on dates, we tell married men and women that we could love them better then their spouses, we post #mcm (Man Crush Monday) and #wcw (Women Crush Wednesday) pics with that tiny inkling of hope that our crush will like us back.

I can understand where the blame on social media can come in. Maybe if he had never started following her on Instagram, they never would have met, and he never would have cheated. Perhaps if she didn’t post all of your relationship woes on her Twitter feed, that dude would not have been able to start telling her he’d do all the things you weren’t, and she would not have cheated. He or she would have never met if it weren’t for Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram, so it’s social medias fault! Right? No. Is it wise to post all of your relationships issues on social media? Well, no, not unless you are willing to be open to the big ass can of worms you are opening up. Social media is a huge circus and we all play our parts in it. When you put yourself and your relationship on front street, you have to be able to handle all of the guests who arrive at your door. Guests that you have invited in. Guests that would not be there without your willingness to allow them to be. Guests that know that you two argue about money, sex, his ex-girlfriend, or your mom always in your business. You did that. We do that. We invite everyone in and then get pissed when some guests don’t leave.

Our relationships fail because of us, and the choices we make, the lack of self-control some of us have, the ways we allow people to treat us, the over sharing many of us do online, which for most takes our relationships into a negative space. Why? Think of it this way: When some people become rich and/or famous, they turn into complete douchebags with inflated egos right? Well, did that person all of a sudden turn into a douchebag, or were they already a douchebag that now has a platform to display their douchebaggery? Was this douchebaggery developed over time, or exacerbated by the money and fame? Social media has done the same thing to some of us and we have transferred that onto our relationships.

My ex-boyfriend cheated on me with a co-worker, and I caught him looking at her pictures on Facebook often. Her Facebook profile did not make him cheat, his penis did. Instagram does not make you jealous of that girl/guy your significant other follows and constantly comments on their pics, you do. Twitter did not make your boyfriend start talking to that girl, DM her, meet her and sleep with her. He did that all on his own (with the help of his penis too). Again, I agree that the outlets to meet people and the chances of becoming involved with them increase due to social media, but our self-control, insecurities, happiness, and jealousy are governed by no one else, but ourselves.
