You Should Be Proud to See Shanesha Taylor Free

“Kids/animals die every year cause ignorant ‘parents’ leave them in the car. I don’t give a flying fuck what her excuse was.”

This was an actual comment left on my Facebook page after I posted an article about Shanesha Taylor avoiding prosecution for leaving her children in a hot SUV, while attending a job interview. Shortly after the story broke, Taylor was immediately demonized as an irresponsible, unfit mother, who callously made her children suffer for her personal greed. And many folks reacted with the same knee-jerk rage as the person who made the comment above. However, since we live in a society in which shoddy fact-gathering, biased investigation, and misleading narratives rule the day, the uniquely sad facts about Taylor’s life went unreported.

UPTOWN_shanesha_taylor

First, Taylor was homeless at the time she decided to take the job interview. Everyday in urban epicenters around the world, there are self-righteous middle-class workers strolling through the downtown core of their city, repeating the same tried and true line to every homeless beggar: “Get a job!” Well, that is exactly what Taylor was trying to do. She didn’t have friends or family she could have left the children with, and she definitely couldn’t afford day care or a babysitter.

Second, Taylor is a single mother of two children, one who was 2 years old and another who was only 6 months old at the time of the incident. While the main character in The Pursuit of Happyness at least had a son that could walk, run, talk, and display some independence, Taylor was taking care of two children, by herself. And literally did not knowing where their next meal or night of shelter would come from. Those are the realities she was living through, and after getting the job interview, she weighed her options between her children suffering long-term from malnutrition, hunger, etc., and the short-term suffering of leaving them in a car while she tries to attain a job. She made a FUCKED UP choice, but she was only presented with FUCKED UP options.

[Image: AP Photo/The Arizona Republic, Tom Tingle]

I find it funny that some people are willing to jump down her throat, but no one wants to look at the systemic failures that left her — and many other families — with difficult to impossible choices. Taylor’s home state of Arizona cut 40 percent of its total child care budget, translating to $81 million. This led to an estimated 33,000 children, who would otherwise be eligible for subsidized care, to go without it. But when you live in a society where rich people tell middle-class people to blame all of society’s problems on poor people, facts like that will be easily ignored or under-reported.

So you might not give a damn what Taylor’s “excuse” was, but I truly don’t give a FUCK about your opinion on a subject matter that most people are far too privileged to ever have to experience. If you are reading this on your smart phone/laptop/computer/iPad, etc. from the comfort of your home or workplace, and you’ve NEVER experienced the trauma of hearing your children suffer from hunger pains that you could do NOTHING to cure, who the HELL cares what YOU would do in that situation? Who cares if you believe Taylor should have done something different, if you are food and shelter secure? Until you stop living in this fantasy world of believing that everyone is the master of their own financial future, and the impoverished/homeless are just not smart or hard working enough to “get their shit together,” then you are exactly the type of idiot who should make a point of keeping your musty, anti-academic opinions to yourself.

Eric Garner’s Widow Urges Prosecutors To Launch Civil Rights Investigation

Esaw Garner

The widow of Eric Garner, the man who died last week after being put in a chokehold by an NYPD officer, is urging federal prosecutors to launch a civil rights investigation. Her plea was heard during a recent meeting in Brooklyn.

On Friday, Esaw Garner sat with two prosecutors from the U.S. attorney’s office to discuss the fatal incident. U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder released a statement following the meeting, calling the death a “tragic event.”

“We are closely monitoring the city’s investigation into the incident,” Holder said. He did not comment on whether the Justice Department would launch its own investigation.

Esaw was joined by Eric’s eldest daughter, his mother and Rev. Al Sharpton at the meeting on Friday. The civil rights activist told reporters that the city’s promise was simply not enough.

“We cannot just depend — and this is important — on police policy to stop the choke hold,” Sharpton said outside the U.S. attorney’s office. “We need a federal precedent.”

Garner died July 17 in State Island following a run-in with the police over his alleged sale of untaxed cigarettes. In a video that has gone viral, he can be seen arguing with cops and asking them to leave him alone before officer Daniel Pantaleo puts him in a chokehold, a move prohibited by NYPD departmental policy.

As he was wrestled to the ground, Garner can be heard yelling that he couldn’t breathe and eventually loses consciousness. He was pronounced dead approximately one hour later at Richmond University Medical Center.

On Wednesday, mourners gathered at Bethel Baptist Church in Brooklyn  to say their final goodbyes to Garner, who is survived by his wife, six children and two grandchildren. Among those in attendance was Kadiatou Diallo, the widow of Amadou Diallo, who was shot to death in 1999 by police, who mistook his wallet for a gun.

“It brings back terrible memories,” Diallo told the Daily News on Wednesday. “After all these cases and all these years, nothing seems to change.”

An autopsy performed on Garner failed to determine a cause of death. Additional analysis is expected to take at least two more weeks.

Following Garner’s death, Pantaleo was put on “modified assignment” and stripped of his gun and badge. Four emergency workers have also been suspended without pay.

Garner’s death is being investigated by at least four authorities which include the Staten Island district attorney, the police department’s internal affairs bureau, the city’s inspector general of police and the city’s Civilian Complaint Review Board.

Zoe Saldana Blasts Media For Revealing Pregnancy

Zoe SaldanaIt didn’t take a skilled eye to figure out Zoe Saldana was pregnant. Yet the Guardians of the Galaxy star is fuming over the media’s reporting of her big news before she got the opportunity to make the announcement herself.

Earlier this week, it was revealed the 36-year-old actress was pregnant with twins with husband Marco Perego. The news came after weeks of speculation as Saldana opted for baggier clothing and loose-fitting tops.

While her publicist eventually confirmed her pregnancy with The Hollywood Reporter, it seems Saldana is angry at the media for jumping the gun. On Thursday, she took to Twitter to share her frustrations.

“I believe that any violation of privacy is nothing good.”~Lech Walesa. I would like to thank all the fucking media for invading our privacy,” she wrote.

Saldana has yet to personally speak out about the pregnancy.

Homeless Man Arrested For Stalking and Harassing Rihanna

RihannaA 53-year-old homeless man has been arrested for stalking and harassing Rihanna by hand-delivering letters to the pop princess at her New York home.

Court records show Kevin Mcglynn was arrested Thursday night after being caught on video surveillance on three different occasions. Authorities said he was delivering the “confusing” messages to one of the singer’s employees.

In the letters, he “repeatedly called her a b-tch” and threatened to “bum [rush] in her apartment,” according to a criminal complaint.

“The nature of these letters [is] confusing,” Assistant District Attorney James Vinocur told a judge. “They all do indicate a personal relationship, as I indicated before, that simply does not exist.”
Authorities said Mcglynn dropped by her $14.6 million SoHo duplex on July 8 and July 11 before making one final visit on July 24 when he was arrested. Cops tracked him down after he left his benefits card listing his name and address.
Mcglynn has also allegedly sent at least four letters to her home in California. At his arraignment, he claimed Rihanna, JAY Z and Kanye West ripped off his material.

Mcglynn, who has at least a dozen arrests on his rap sheet, was ordered held without bail on Friday.

Mike Tyson Eyes Jamie Foxx For Former Boxing Champ’s Biopic

Mike Tyson, Jamie Foxx

It seems Mike Tyson has found his leading man for a biopic on the former boxing champ’s life. All signs lead to Jamie Foxx, who’s been known for poking fun at Tyson in the past.

“Me and Jamie Foxx have been talking and he’s willing to take that role and portray me as Mike Tyson, doing my life story,” Tyson told The Associated Press on Friday. ”I think he’s splendid because he’s really up to par. I think he would do a magnificent job.”

Word of the biopic first surfaced in January when Tyson and wife Lakiha Spicer toyed with the idea of teaming up with “Undisputed Truth” author Larry Sloman to produce a film. Spicer previously said she would prefer to cast an unknown actor to play a young Tyson, but Foxx could lock down the older role.

“I saw him the other night and we discussed it,” Tyson said. “He doesn’t have the physicality but he will. He’s able to … get bulky, so he’s capable of doing it in the future.”

Tyson added that the project will “happen very shortly.” He is currently focused on bringing his Undisputed Truth one-man show to Toronto’s Air Canada Centre on Sept. 10.

Terrence Howard Claims Ex is Blackmailing Him

Terrence Howard and his ex wife Michelle Ghent battle over spousal support payments.

Imagine living off $6,000 a month. For most of us would be pretty comfortable. But for an actor, that’s like living in the poor house.

Terrence Howard’s feud with his ex-wife Michelle Ghent continues. The Best Man Holiday actor claims Ghent has threatened to blackmail him for spousal support, leaving him with barely $6,000 to live off monthly.

Now, Howard is urging a judge to overturn his alimony payments to Ghent  because he simply cannot afford it. He claims a huge chunk of his money goes to ex-wife Lori McMasters to pay spousal and child support. TMZ reports that Howard’s Hollywood checks go straight to McMasters and she cuts him a check after that.

Actor Terrence Howard claims he can’t afford to pay spousal support to Michelle Ghent.

Ghent is not fazed by that claim. According to TMZ, she says Howard owes her $325,000 in spousal support. He argues that they were only married for a year, and he was blackmailed and extorted into signing the settlement. You may remember the former couple had their share of ups and downs that played out in the media. Ghent made several allegations that physical abuse started a week after they were married. After the pair broke up, they reunited for a tropical getaway, where things got a little ugly. Ghent claimed Howard started hitting her after an argument, and he claimed that she used mace on him.

You would think Howard would have learned his lesson by now, but he married his fourth wife Miranda last year. Guess he better dust off his vocal chords and get back in the studio to record another album, so he can make some extra coins.

Dollar Tree is getting a new kind of bang for its buck. The company is buying rival discount retailer Family Dollar for $8.5 billion.

The boards of both companies unanimously approved the merger. The transaction valued at $74.50 a share, is a nearly 23% premium over Family Dollar’s closing price on Friday. Charlotte, North Carolina based Family Dollar’s shareholders will receive $59.60 in cash and $14.90 in Dollar Tree shares.

The multi billion dollar deal means more than 13,000 stores and more consumers in the United States and Canada for the discounter. Dollar General Corp., is the leading discount store with more than 11,300 stores across the country.

Just like many major retailers, dollar stores have had their share of problems, including sale shortages due to the recession. Family Dollar tried coping by shutting down over 300 stores, and slashing prices in April, but last month, investor Carl Icahn urged the company to put itself up for sale.

While both companies have different business models, it is unclear if any Dollar Tree or Family Dollar stores will be closed or if any jobs will be lost. However, Dollar Tree will continue to operate under the existing Dollar Tree brands it offers as well as the Family Dollar brand.

Rare Summer Thunderstorm Kills on Venice Beach

Some beach-goers were met by some unwanted forces of nature yesterday. A rare summer thunderstorm crashed over Southern California yesterday killing one, and injuring many.

One of the biggest sites hit was the world-famous Venice Beach. A 20-year-old swimmer was killed after being struck by lightning during the storm. His name has yet to be released, but it’s been reported that he was taken to the hospital and died there Sunday afternoon.

The storm did not target swimmers alone. Others, enjoying the sand and the boardwalk were struck too. Those in the water fled quickly after lightning struck the water around 2 p.m. Sunday. Thirteen people were struck on the Venice Beach boardwalk. A 15-year-old boy is in critical condition from his injuries. Nine others have been hospitalized. The storm was massive, with victims stretching as far as Santa Catalina Island to Redondo Beach, CA.

Witnesses say that the scene yesterday was chaotic. One person described it as a scene from the movie, Jaws. People were screaming and running as if a shark was spotted.

Beach-goer Stuart Acher, who was struck, described his unusual experience with playing volleyball on the beach. He told KABC-TV:

“We went about our game and then all of a sudden, there was a big flash of light and a boom, and it felt like someone punched me in the back of my head. It went down my whole side of my right body, and my calves sort of locked up, and I fell over. And I looked up and everybody else was, you know, falling over.”

The storm was not predicted yesterday, and many said it came out of nowhere. An autopsy is underway for the swimmer that died to determine the cause of death. Other victims struck by lightning remain hospitalized.

A Japanese teen has been arrested on charges of killing and dismembering her classmate. The 16-year-old unnamed suspect admitted to beating and strangling 15-year-old Aiwa Matsuko. Japanese police found the decapitated head, dismembered hand, and corpse, along with various tools in the suspect’s apartment.

UPTOWN_aiwa_matsukoPolice went to the 16 year old’s apartment in the small town of Sasebo and found her bedroom covered in blood with her friend Matsuko lying on the bed. According to police, the suspect struck Matsuko on the back of the head more than 10 times with a blunt object, and strangled her while she was unconscious. The 16 year old, then, cut off Matsuko’s head and left hand with a large knife.

Matsuko’s parents had contacted police after their daughter had not returned home Saturday night. She had sent them a message earlier in the day saying she was going to visit her friend. Matsuko later sent a text message saying she was about to head home.

Stephen A. Smith Was Correct About Domestic Abuse

$

0

UPTOWN_stephen_a_smith_main

I thoroughly dislike Stephen A. Smith. To be more specific, I thoroughly dislike Stephen A’s attempt at deep social commentary. When it comes to talking about basketball teams, the NBA playoffs, and free agency, his flamboyant and overwrought delivery makes him the man. But when it comes to serious social issues, I would truly prefer if Smith chose to bow out and keep his hyperbolic opinions to himself. It was corny of him to appear on The Arsenio Hall Show to defend Kobe Bryant‘s ignorant take on the Trayvon Martin tragedy by boorishly stating, “When I [Smith] give a damn, I’ll let you know.” It was similarly pathetic to see Smith praise Mark Cuban‘s honesty in admitting he is a bigot, while simultaneously reprimanding Black people on how we deal with overt racism. I always knew Smith’s big mouth was going to land him in a world of hurt, but I never could have predicted it was for a comment that I actually agreed with.

On Friday, Smith and Skip Bayless, hosts of ESPN’s widely popular debate show First Take, delved into NFL running back Ray Rice and his domestic abuse charges. And, unfortunately, Smith did exactly what he always does whenever a serious topic is presented on that show. He discussed it an immature manner that belies the vast importance of the issue at hand.

As someone who makes a point of focusing on the content of someone’s words more so than their delivery, I thought Smith’s analysis of domestic violence was fair. I heard him preempt his comments by continually stating that it is completely wrong for a man to hit a woman, and he even reiterated that point throughout his rant. My takeaway is that Smith doesn’t believe a man should ever hit a woman, but it is also wrong for a woman to instigate a physical fight with a man by hitting him (a point that Bayless brought up during the monologue he made before Smith’s). However, since Smith was crudely attempting to make a serious point, while also being entertaining, he came off like a chauvinistic asshole — and that was the moment the shit hit the fan.

Instantly, bloggers and writers called Smith out for “mansplaining” domestic abuse and for advocating that women could provoke their own beatings. Even Smith’s colleague, Michelle Beadle, blasted him on Twitter for his remarks:

In the court of public opinion, Smith was convicted of being an abuse-advocating pig, even by those who had never heard his rant. The outrage came in quick yet furious, and Smith found himself embroiled in a controversy he couldn’t understand. Off air, when he found out about the massive outrage around his comments, his first reactions were anger and disbelief, as represented in his Twitter rant shortly after the show aired. To be honest, even I was annoyed at the reaction that he received, NOT only because I thought his comments were reasonable, but also because the backlash had the halo of the same hyperbolic bullshit with which Smith treats social issues.

I make a point of studying the collective social impact of particular issues before ignorantly speaking about them. I do believe that we have a very real problem in our society with physical aggression that affects both sexes, which informs my personal opinion that men and women need to be told to NEVER abuse anyone. And I came to this conclusion NOT by trying to find facts that support my claim, but by analyzing all points from all sources about the topic at hand. The CDC and The National Institute of Justice report that one out of every four women in the U.S. will experience domestic abuse as an adult. Studies show that abused women are the victims of more than six assaults at the hands of the same partner per year. In America, studies also show that 38 percent of domestic violence victims will become homeless at some point in their lifetime, and an estimated 1.75 million workdays are lost as a result of intimate partner abuse. Those numbers are horrifyingly high, but that is not where real journalism should end on any discussion about domestic violence.

How many people are aware that in relationships, women are as physically aggressive, or more aggressive, than men? In fact, there have been over 200 scholarly studies performed on this topic, from men’s rights organizations all the way to feminist study groups. Most of these reports found that both genders engage in fighting at a rate far higher than a man attacking a woman. Those studies also prove that even when women initiate physical confrontations, men overwhelmingly end them with severe violence. So, despite who the aggressor is, women end up being hurt worse. If you take those studies into consideration, are Smith’s comments still as rage-inducing?

See, somewhere along the line, framing domestic violence as a serious problem for both genders became politically incorrect and the discussion became controlled by activists with their own agendas. And we relied on journalists to present the factual truths. We relied on great women and men to reveal to us all the realities that made us uncomfortable. It was their ability to report that made journalists of the past truly heroic and necessary.

But now, because of men like Stephen A. Smith and the self-aggrandizing, so-called “journalists,” who collectively indulge in creating villains in order to further their self-indignant morality and anti-academic “research,” we now live in an age in which receiving a measured, logical account of anything has become virtually impossible. These writers are more concerned with being revered in history for battling their self-created villains by staying on the right side of today’s politically correct issues and keeping tally of the number of apologies they can take credit for, like the scripted one Stephen A. Smith gave today on First Take.

Last week, Tony Dungy found himself in a media firestorm for stating that if he were still coaching he would not draft Michael Sam, because he would not want all the media attention surrounding his team. Instantly, the “right side of history” writers decided to make Dungy the face of homophobia, when the truth is that Dungy, even as a devout Christian who opposes same-sex marriage, stated that he would draft Sam if that did not come along with all the media hype. Dungy has been nothing but supportive of Sam’s efforts to play in the NFL, but Dungy’s a terrible human being for saying he wouldn’t want a seventh round draft pick at his camp who would be followed by OWN’s camera crew? C’mon. Dungy is Keith Olbermann‘s worst person in the world because he wouldn’t want his camp inundated with activist-writers who would be salivating to report a story “exposing the rampant homophobia” on Dungy’s team the moment Sam gets into a fight with an offensive lineman (which happens EVERYDAY), or the moment a position coach screams at him for messing up (which happens TWICE everyday to rookies)? That is not responsible reporting or journalism — that’s just begging to be on the right side of history.

You want to hear a boring reality, bloggers and right side of history writers? I, Stephen A. Smith, most of society, and anti-domestic violence activists all believe that Ray Rice is a shitty human being for hitting a woman. We all believe that domestic violence is wrong. The villain isn’t Stephen A. Smith or ESPN, the villains are the abusers. This story won’t get you or your blog the attention you want, but if journalistic credibility is NOT something you’re interested in, then go ahead and write your think piece. The way things are going now, your irresponsibility may truly be your reward.

NYPD Killed Sex Offender During Daytime Shootout

The NYPD shot and killed a sex offender, who had been on the run for over two years after skipping bail in California, in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village Monday. The shootout included federal marshals and the police.

Last week, CNN’s “The Hunt” featured Charles Mozdir, who was hiding from the law after molesting two boys under the age of 7. It is believed that a viewer revealed his location after viewing his story on the series.

The shooting occurred just after 1 p.m. in the West Village near New York University. A fugitive apprehension task force attempted to serve a warrant at a local smoke shop where it is believed that Mozdir was working. Mozdir pulled a revolver on the officers and shot two U.S. marshals and an NYPD detective. Mozdir was also shot during the altercation.

UPTOWN_revolverSources say one of the marshals was shot in the leg and the NYPD detective was shot three times, according to Daily Mail. All four victims went to Bellevue Hospital, where Mozdir later died. Mozdir also had 20 more rounds of ammunition in his pockets.

NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton has remained mum on how the U.S. Marshals task force received the tip of Mozdir’s whereabouts.

Mozdir had been considered armed and dangerous since a roommate told police that he had two guns and threatened to kill himself, as well as the father of one of his victims. Law enforcement had been trailing him from California into Mexico, before their search led them to the southern United States and finally New York City.

Father Freed after Serving Time for Overpayment of Child Support

Clifford Hall, the Texas man who had been jailed for overpaying child support, is now free man, according to his lawyer Tyesha Elam. Hall was released on July 2, after an associate judge suspended his sentence in a routine jail review hearing.

Hall had been held in contempt, even though he overpaid a child support debt that was caused by a clerical error.

Elam says the problem stems from a law passed in June 2013 that repealed protections for parents paying child support who may fall behind. Instead of paying in full to make up for missed payments without a problem, the new statute snags both deadbeat parents, as well as those who may be experiencing temporary financial difficulties.

Upon release, the first thing Hall was attempt to make up missed visits with his son by picking up the boy.

However, Hall is still not in the clear. The suspended sentence still means his “crime” is looming above his head, should he do anything to violate the law.

Man Kills Family Dog and Serves Him For Dinner

When too much drinking goes terribly wrong….a New Mexico husband and father brutally murdered a pet dog and even worse, planned to serve it for dinner.

The 46-year old, Salvador Martinez, was in a drunken stupor one day when he decided there was not enough food in the home to feed his family.  He angrily took the dog to the backyard where he used a screwdriver to stab it in the heart. Martinez continued to abuse the young 9-month-old Chihuahua and dachshund mix-bred pup, named Onyx. He then skinned the dog – all while his children were in the home aware of what was happening to their beloved pet.

When Martinez’s girlfriend told him she was going to report him to the authorities for killing the dog, Martinez took his sick plan a step further. His girlfriend said there was plenty of food in the home, but Martinez thought otherwise. He decided to cut up the remains in small pieces and store the pup in the freezer for dinner at a later time.  Martinez even told his girlfriend that if he could not cook the dog at home, he would cook it at his mother’s house one day at a barbecue.

The deranged and drunk dog slayer has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty and child abuse. This incident violates his parole, after previous run ins with the law, including a 2003 arrest for smuggling cocaine into the US from Mexico.

Donald Sterling Clippers Sale

The record-setting $2 billion sale of Los Angeles Clippers is back on, after Donald Sterling lost an attempt to block the purchase. Sterling’s estranged wife negotiated a deal with former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer after the NBA announced they would be removing the 80 year old from the league over racist comments.

Shelly Sterling removed her estranged husband from the family’s trust that owned the team because doctors found evidence that he might have Alzheimer’s disease. Donald Sterling denied the allegations of having the disease, and accused his wife of conspiring against him.

Superior Court Judge Michael Levanas ruled Monday that Shelly Sterling had negotiated a good deal and was not involved in a plot to secretly seize the team. “I can’t believe it’s over,” Shelly Sterling said. “This is the best thing.” She hugged her lawyer and wept as Judge Levanas read his ruling.

UPTOWN_los_angeles_clippers_logoThe former NBA owner has been unapologetic since the league announced in February he was banned for life. Leaked phone messages revealed that he asked his younger ex-girlfriend Vivian Stiviano to avoid hanging out and being photographed with Black men and posting images of them on her Instagram. He stated that Lakers legend Magic Johnson was a bad role model for kids due to his HIV-positive status. After leaking the recording, Stiviano was the victim of an alleged racist assault in New York.

Lawyers for Donald Sterling said they plan to appeal, however he will not be able to block the sale of the team while lawyers appeal. The billionaire previously agreed to the sale of the team, but he refused when presented with the Ballmer deal. He then said he would sue the NBA instead of giving up his stake in the team. Sterling said in court that he will continue to use the court system to prevent the sale of the team.

Aretha Franklin BET Honors 2014

A Johnny Rockets waiter kicked the Queen of Soul out of a Lewiston, New York restaurant.

The young waiter was “very rude, unprofessional and nasty” towards Aretha Franklin when she ordered a hamburger in a to go bag, but decided to enjoy her meal at the restaurant instead. Franklin went to the burger joint with her nephew after her sold out concert. What makes this story even more bizarre: the waiter didn’t recognize the legend, and continued to berate her for sitting down in a booth without asking. The restaurant was described as being not busy.

The waiter then ordered Franklin to stand outside the Johnny Rockets restaurant, which was located inside a food court. The living legend then stormed out of the Ontario, Canada restaurant.

A Johnny Rockets spokeswoman says the franchise owner is sorry for the actions of “a new and very young employee.”

She says the owner has spoken with the employee and has clarified takeout policies.

Porsha Stewart and Kenya Moore won’t be the only housewives without a husband next season. Phaedra Parks isn’t ready to give up her “Real Housewives of Atlanta” peach just because her husband Apollo Nida will be spending time off-camera behind bars. Parks will appear for most episodes sans Nida, who will be serving an eight-year prison sentenced for fraud.

Rumors surfaced last week that the celebrity lawyer would be taking a leave of absence next season from the hit show. Yet Parks has been shooting the new season for the past month, according to TMZ. Nida is said to be filming as much as he can before he reports to prison. However, Parks will take some time away from shooting to get her house in order, but won’t be staying away permanently. After all, it only makes sense to keep herself busy and the checks rolling in since she will now be the head of one-parent household.

Much of the couple’s story line will focus on Nida’s conviction and the strain the verdict has placed on their relationship and family. Parks may even be considering filing for a divorce. She stated that she was unaware of Nida’s actions and had no involvement in the fraud schemes. She believed that he was working legally in a number ventures, including a personal training business. Another story line is rumored to revolve around Nida’s supposed illicit text messages to Parks’ nemesis, former Miss USA Moore. However with Nida heading back to the slammer, Moore may soon have to find a new story line.

Andy Cohen, the mastermind behind the “Housewives” series, has yet to comment on any of the rumors involving the Atlanta housewife. The rest of the ladies — Nene Leakes, Kandi Burruss-Tucker, Cynthia Bailey, Stewart, and Moore — are all set to return for another drama-filled season.

NYPD’s Chokehold Trend Continues, Pregnant Woman is Latest Victim

rosan miller chokehold

A pregnant Brooklyn woman came forward to say an NYPD officer placed her in a chokehold for illegal grilling in front of her home. Photos released by advocacy group People Organizing and Working for Empowerment and Respect show seven-months-pregnant Rosan Miller struggling with an unidentified policeman who has his arm around her neck and torso. Her daughter can be seen in the background while she is being arrested.

The NYPD prohibits the use of chokeholds.

Officials said officers went to Miller’s home over the weekend to follow up on a domestic dispute with another resident when they encountered the family grilling on a sidewalk- a violation of the local law. When the family was confronted, a scuffle ensued between police, her husband and her brother that ended with all three being charged with various offenses.

Rosan Miller received a summons for disorderly conduct. Her brother John Miller was charged with harassment and obstruction of justice. Her husband Moses Miller was charged with resisting arrest and obstruction.

Former city councilman Charles Barron expressed his outrage by calling cops to complain and “expedite” the Millers’ release, he said. “She was grilling in front of her home, not committing any crime,” Barron said.

Many residents echo Barron’s sentiments due to the ongoing use of police activity involving the use of the chokehold. Eric Garner died last week after being placed in a chokehold while in police custody. Since then, civil rights activist Rev. Al Sharpton has been at the forefront to end the use of the chokehold.

“We cannot just depend — and this is important — on police policy to stop the choke hold. We need a federal precedent,” Sharpton said.

Meanwhile, a Boko Haram bomb killed five people as they left a church in Kano, Nigeria, on Sunday too. The weekend ambush and kidnapping is the third Boko Haram attack in Cameroon since July 25. At least four soldiers were killed in the two previous attacks. In a separate incident, a female suicide bomber tried to attack police officers on the street. She killed herself, but only wounded two of officers.

According to the BBC, Cameroon, Nigeria, Chad, and Niger recently formed “a 2,800-strong regional force” to combat the Islamic extremist group.
